Looking for extra help with college / high school math or physics, or college computer science? Perhaps that AP Calculus or Physics exam is looking like a challenge, or your son or daughter would like to improve their SAT scores? I have helped hundreds of students around the country make sense of calculus, discrete math and physics, to name a few popular subjects...check out my reviews and ratings. It's so great when I hear my students tell me they passed that hard mandatory class for their major, got an A on a big test, a 5 on an AP exam, or a 1440 on their SAT. I have a Master's in Computer Science from Stanford, and enjoy helping people learn about math and computer science, as well as related subjects like physics and SAT prep.
My specialties include college / AP classes like calculus and physics, as well as college classes for discrete math, computer architecture, and algorithm analysis. If you find yourself struggling with a challenging math class or challenging teacher, or just need a refresher in trigonometry, probability and statistics, or precalc to get through more advanced math, I would be a great choice to help you. My students appreciate my approach with lots of patience and positive reinforcement.
I have a flexible schedule, and can meet you or your students online, which is the most popular option, or in person after school, or during the day if that's more convenient. Most of my in-person students meet with me either at the library or in their home. At this point, I have a number of regular weekly clients who get priority for future appointments, so not all times shown in the availability list below are schedulable for new clients, but I would be happy to work with you to find a time that would work for you.
My preference is to work with students who want to improve performance in a class or for a standardized test over a series of regular sessions, as opposed to one-time help for a class assignment or test. You might reasonably expect a one-letter grade improvement from weekly meetings over an eight week period; of course, that varies with the student, subject, and situation, so is a goal rather than a guarantee.
Doug is an incredible tutor.
He is very patient, punctual, organized and attentive in his teaching. He knows Discrete Math to a very detailed degree and goes through the content in fashion that makes clear the concepts and foundations of the subject to better assist when it comes time to expand on the various components of the problems in a Midterm or future assignment. He is always happy to answer any questions and go over things as many times until it takes for me to understand them. He makes me feel at ease and has improved my confidence overall. I have moved up at least 1 grade thanks to Doug. Thank you Doug!Jacob, 14 lessons with Doug

Knowledgeable, patient, and incredible
Doug taught my son permutations, combinatorics, and discrete math involving mathematical structures. He is very thorough and has many examples on hand to pull out to help expose students to new material while still teaching and reinforcing the topic instead of just going over examples from class or homework. He is very patient and accommodating and it is very apparent how much he cares for his students.Christine, 8 lessons with Doug
Doug is awesome
Doug is able to clearly teach complicated advanced Physics topics. He also has practical applications that are outside of the reading to explain the material in multiple ways. He understands the advanced mathematics in AP and Honors Physics very well.Ethan and Natalie, 18 lessons with Doug
Knowledgeable, professional & efficient tutor
Doug helped my son with his Computer Org class last semester so he was a natural fit for helping with Computer Logic class. He is professional & friendly. Doug is extremely knowledgeable about the content matter. He is direct and to the point & explains the content well so this makes excellent use of tutoring time. Doug was extremely helpful last semester and I'm confident he will help with this class as well. We highly recommend this tutor and will continue to use him in the future.Jan, 15 lessons with Doug

Mr. Doug- Was very patient. His tutoring helped my daughter to be more confident for her upcoming test. We will definitely request additional class in the future when needed. Thank you.Pratima, 1 lesson with Doug
Helpful, knowledgeable, and Communicative.
Gave a thorough introduction to physics and what to expect for the rest of the year and for the final AP exam. We went through some sample problems taken from the exam. At the end we did one problem that put to use everything I learned from that class.Vijay, 15 lessons with Doug
A fun, extremely knowledgeable, and engaging tutor
Doug helped me begin to build a solid foundation in the world of data structures and algorithms. Can't recommend him highly enough if you're looking to learn computer science the right way!Richard, 2 lessons with Doug
