I currently teach CSC 150 computer literacy undergraduate courses at Norfolk State University. I provide instructions on computer software (Windows and Microsoft Office Suites). I also design and develop courseware. I develop course curricula and served on assigned school, departmental and community committees. I developed the first online course for the Computer Science Department at Norfolk State University and assisted in the management of all CSC 150 courses. I developed the first hybrid online/face to face course in the Computer Science Department. I have 300 plus hours of professional development training in computer literacy, 23 years of experience in teaching computers and information processing courses, and 20 years of work experience in the military. I attended various professional development conferences and seminars offered by course technology. The sessions were dedicated to examining relevant trends in technology as well as how instructors can incorporate these new technologies into their curriculum and teaching. Many of the professional development activities and events provided hands-on training in Microsoft Office, Blackboard, Adobe and the use of SAM-specific course management software. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have taught Access for over 20 years online and in the traditional classroom. I have also taught Access as a volunteer to parents in the local Virginia Beach community. I make the course simple and easy to understand for those with little on no computer skills. I am a LERN certified online instructor.
I have taught Excel for 20 years at Norfolk State University online and in the traditional classroom. I use games such a Jeopardy to make learning Excel fun. I currently teach Microsoft Excel 2013. I am a LERN certified online instructor.
I have been using and teaching Outlook for over 15 years. I setup Outlook accounts on both PC's and mobile devices. I use Microsoft Outlook and my 200 plus students are required to use Outlook as their email client. They are required to attach and retrieve files via email, send and receive emails, and login and out of their email accounts.
I teach PowerPoint now at NSU. My students are required to create an ePortfolio using PowerPoint. I have used PowerPoint for over 35 years both in the military and now in higher education.
I have used, taught and currently teach Windows on the university level. I have attended various professional development workshops on Windows conducted by Course Technology (Cengage). Windows is operating system I currently use at home and work.
I teach Microsoft Word 2013 now and require my students to create reports, resumes, and other word processing documents. I have also used and taught the earlier versions of Microsoft Word. I currently teach 2 online and 3 traditional courses using Word.
