About Whitney

I possess a Master's degree in Special Education and I am the Executive Director of a learning center. My organization provides academic interventions in the home or in a center, to youth ages 5-21. All of the students that we serve have IEPs, 504 Plans, or Behavior Modification Plans. I love working with children and get so excited when they learn something new. I am especially passionate about reading. I love to work with students in grades K-6 to offer specialized tutoring.

I truly have a passion for helping students get ahead and stay ahead in their academics. I have prior experience in leading a second grade class, being a resource teacher for students in grades K-6, & an autism teacher. I have the firm belief that with the right help, all students can learn. I teach in a way that the student can best learn the material, even if that means we sit on the floor. I received my MAT in Special Education from Liberty University.

Parents are welcome to contact me prior to services to obtain a FREE consultation and decide if I am the right fit.

I do not know everything, but if you ask me...we can certainly find out together.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ADHD

I received my Special Education degree from Liberty University. I have previously worked with students with AD[H]D in reading and math. While many would tell them to try harder, it is my goal to help them learn in a way they can relate to. I allow frequent breaks so that the student doesn't become overwhelmed.

Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)

I currently teach students on the Autism Spectrum. All students learn differently and there is no exception to students with ASD. With much patience and understanding, it is my goal to assist students with autism. I have a Special Education degree from Liberty University.

Elementary (K-6th)

I am a special education teacher and have experience working with students in grades K-6. I enjoy working with younger kids and they are more open and excited to receive information. I use a variety of tactics to keep their interest such as cartoon characters and music artists.

Handwriting

I enjoy helping students improve their handwriting skills. This is an important skill to have in life. I have used "writing boxes" to help students that may write too big or too small. I also have experience helping those that need assistance with writing neatly.

Special Needs

I received my MAT in Special Education(K-12) from Liberty University in 2012. I currently teach students on the Autism Spectrum. I have previously taught and tutored students with AD{H}D.

Study Skills

I have helped several students with study skills. We usually begin with teaching students how to be organized. I also show them various methods of how to keep track of assignments. The most important skill that I show students is how to take notes and study in order to retain information. I received my Special Education degree from Liberty University.
