About Kathleen

Hi! I'm Kathy, or "Miss R" as my students have called me, and I'm looking forward to being your family's tutor. I'm sure you're a little curious about me, so let me tell you a little bit about my teaching credentials. I'm a Virginia certified teacher with endorsements in English and Speech Communication. I've had a five years of teaching experience in the classroom, and have taught subjects like English (including Advanced Placement English Literature and Composition), Speech, World History, Elementary Music (Kindergarten - 6th grades), and Life Skills. I have also taught students how to play the piano and the flute.

I currently tutor elementary students in English, Reading, Language Arts, and Math. In the past, I have also tutored elementary students in both Science and Social Studies.

When I teach English or History, I use multi-sensory, hands-on activities, along with traditional methods, to help my students learn by doing. While most of my tutoring material is geared toward middle and high school students, I am able to adapt lessons for elementary students.

I look forward to meeting you and your family soon!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
