Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ADD/ADHD

I am board certified to teach special education to students from K-12 who are ED/OHI/LD/ID. I currently work with students who are classified as Learning Disabled or have Other Health Impairment such as ADHD or ADD. I have worked with a wide variety of students with disabilities for the past ten years.

Algebra 1

I have taught and tutored many students in Algebra and have seen success in their learning. I have taught high school Math for ten years in the state of Virginia.

Elementary (K-6th)

I am board certified by the Department of Education of Virginia to teach K-12 as a Special Education teacher. I have taught elementary 2nd and 4th grade at Birdneck Elementary for four years. I have worked as a tutor for the past ten year working with students as young as five years old to eighteen years old. I have worked with students that struggle with phonics, reading comprehension, and basic math skills. I am highly qualified to teach English and math from K-12 as well for the general education population.

Study Skills

As a special education teacher we are trained to teach student different methods of studying skills to assist them in their other subjects. One of the classes I teach is a resource class. During this time I teach students how to be organized. We use various methods of study skills based on their learning styles such as flash card, mnemonics, organizing a series of events using pictures, etc.
