I am a professional tutor with 12 hours certified tutor training with Southside Virginia Community College. I realized how important education was for me in April of 2015 when I started working for Source4teachers as a teacher's aide. I assisted in the education of students ranging from pre-k to 12 grade.
I was with Source4Teachers until December of 2016, then in March of 2016 I began working for Southside Virginia Community College after receiving my tutor certification. As a professional tutor, I assisted GED students in their lowest level subjects in order for them to pass various GED tests and receive their degree. This has been with students ranged between ages 16 and 75.
My passion for teaching comes from the joy I receive in watching my students succeed. Whatever your educational goals are, I will be devoted to assisting you in reaching that goal.
Working with Source4Teachers, I was usually assigned SOL (standards of learning) remediation classes. This means I was responsible for helping students in their weakest subjects in order to assist them in passing their respective SOLs. My biggest group tend to be my Pre-Algebra, Algebra 1 and Algebra 2, and these were usually the hardest SOL tests, with an average passing rate of about 30%. All of my students passes their SOLs after receiving assistance from me.
Also, the math GED, which required knowledge from every grade school level of math, is the most rigorous GED test. All of my students have passed their math GED the first time around, some with little math knowledge passed this exam in less than 2 months.
As a tutor, I find myself involved in educational programs outside of my workplace. One of these programs is within public schools, where I bring my service dog into the elementary school and students are allowed to read to my service dog as a reward for satisfying certain reading goals. This creates a love for reading within a child by providing a reward system as the guidance into reading. This program is extremely successful.
Also, working with GED students, one of the most complicated tests is the writing portion of the Language arts GED, i assist my students by requiring them to write practice essays of various lengths and assisting them in understanding the process to writing an essay, including planning, proof-reading, and finalizing drafts.
I work with GED students in a daily basis. My retention rate is extremely high, and there has never been a student I have found to be "unteachable." GED has always been a satisfying program to work for, as I help students complete a large chapter of their lives and move forward to the next.
I am extremely flexible with times and availability. I am excited to work with anyone who needs assistance, and am ecstatic to help you in your current and future educational endeavors. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
Math has always been my strong suit. I understand this is an extremely difficult subject for a good portion of students, and am completely devoted to the students complete understanding of the subject.
My experience working in a GED classroom and achieving high retention rates makes me extremely qualified for this opportunity.
Working with students of all reading levels on a skill building basis, and volunteer work in public schools with a reading program, encouraging students to read with a rewards system.
