Kent State University (English Education)
Ashland University (MEd)
I earned my Undergraduate Degree in English Education in 2006 from Kent State University, and then earned a Masters of Education degree in Special Education from Ashland University in 2008. I am dual-certified in Virginia for both of these subjects, and I have been teaching for seven years. Since 2010, I have worked at Tabb High School, as a Special Education Teacher for students with behavior disorders. It is a self contained class, and in addition to working as their Special Education teacher and English of record, I also facilitate their learning in their other classes. This has given me a great deal of experience in subjects outside of English, including all SOL classes (i.e. Algebra I, Earth Science, World History, Biology, etc.). In addition to this, I have worked as a certified English 12 teacher at Lackey High School in Maryland. During the summers, I teach at York County's Summer Academy, I work with the little guys, teaching students in grades K-5. I am also an Assistant coach for the Tabb Middle School Football team and Tabb High School's Lacrosse club.
I am available for tutoring most weekends, and evenings after 6. During the summer months, I am available Monday-Thursday, after 1 PM, and any time, Friday-Sun. Whether your goal is to pass SOLs, bring up flagging grades, or increase your understanding, I am happy to work with you and/or your student to succeed. My daily work with the most reluctant learners allows me to say with confidence that I am happy to work with any child, regardless of their personal challenges. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have a Master's Degree in Mild/Moderate special education, and I have been employed as a public special school education teacher for six years. Over the course of those six years, I have had at least 10 students who were diagnosed with ADD/ADHD. I created and implemented IEPs which addressed the unique needs of these students, and I have had success in helping those students achieve their academic and personal goals.
I have 5 years of experience coaching football. I was an assistant coach at Lackey High school in Charles County, Maryland for one year, and I have been an assistant coach for an area middle school team football team for four years. During this time, I have attended numerous coaching clinics, which have given me insight into teaching proper technique.
During High School, I was a two time Varsity letter winner, including being awarded as an All-Ohio Senior All-Star defensive player. Following high school, I played for the Kent State University Lacrosse Club for four years. In addition to my years playing lacrosse, I have been the Head Junior Varsity coach and assistant Varsity coach for an area high school Lacrosse Club for the past three years.
I have a Master's Degree in Mild/Moderate special education, and I have been employed as a public special school education teacher for six years. Over the course of those six years, I have worked with students with myriad disabilities, including students with high and low functioning autism, mild-severe mental and physical disabilities, behavior disorders, and learning disabilities. While I have primarily worked with high school students during the school year, I have also taught elementary and middle school students during summer school.
