Dear Students and parents,
I have lot of experiences in working with students, individually, on-line and class room settings. I developed a new genetics course for nursing students and also teach biochemistry for pre-nursing students. My specialties are biochemistry, genetics, cell biology, molecular biology and Japanese. You probably guessed from my name that I am from Japan. I taught Japanese to business professionals for preparing their trip to Japan when I worked at a pharmaceutical industry. I enjoy teaching students to share what I know and help students to progress toward their goals. Each student has different goals, pass tests at their schools, supplement their knowledge beyond what you learnt at schools, pass MCAT, prepare for GRE or pass AP test.
Whatever your reason to have tutor, it will make you one step ahead of other fellows. It is hard to spend extra time for study when your peers might be enjoying their lives. But you will understand later what it means to be better than other peers. I have a daughter, who is working at a chemical company. I pushed her to study hard. The result was that she was accepted by a good university with grant to cover her study. Good students are treated accordingly by academic institutions and industries as well. I am happy to see she is doing well. I want you to excel in your academic subjects and achieve what you dream about.
My philosophy for teaching is that repeat same topics several times from different ways. This will help you understand the topics better and will be able to apply to different situations. Memorizing is the first step, apply the information is second step. My job is that I will help you to understand the topics and make easier to memorize. Then, I will ask you think from different angles. As all of these is based on what you learnt at school, I will first ask you what you learnt at school before we start. It is important to review what you know so as both of us understand what need to be added to what you know already. I will stay close to your textbook. My own experience is that if you know and understand your textbook very well, you can answer any questions correctly. I will point you what are important for you to understand well and remember.
I use summary sheet for my biochemistry and genetics classes to emphasize what is important and connect different chapters into one sheet to understand how there are connected.
Teaching Japanese is fun. I is very language from English for you. But I found I can combine several words, phrases, expression into one place to facilitate you to memorize them. I will give you many examples to expand your level of expression.
