I am very impressed by Cheryl's teaching abilities with my 10 year old son. My son has ADD and has been struggling with math. We have only been working with Cheryl for a short time and he has already built his confidence and his ability to see math activities a little more clearer by the strategies that Cheryl utilizes. I am pleased that my husband and I made the decision to hire a tutor and we have been blessed with Cheryl! For the first time on 5/21 my son came home with a score on his math class work of 100% in the lowest common factor. He was so happy and we were pleased to see that my son's frustration with understanding math will soon be gone. Thank you Cheryl for all that you do!!!

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

I worked with 7th grade students in Algebra 1 in a middle school setting. My most recent experience with students was as a high school Algebra 1 teacher. In both settings we strove to meet SOL objectives and more in this subject.

I worked with students in the prerequisite to Algebra 2 in middle school and high school settings.

Working with the City of Suffolk Parks and Recreation Department gave me a chance to tutor children in elementary school. Everyday after school I helped children with homework that included the four core subjects of english, mathematics, science, and social studies. Each day after school, along with a couple of my other coworkers, I would set up study/homework sessions with the kids who needed help completing their work. I would check each child's work to make sure it was completed fully and correctly.

One of the biggest struggles my students had was the lack of elementary math background. As an Algebra Readiness Instructor, I helped to reinforce the basics they should have known before entering middle school. As an Algebra teacher I worked with students that lacked the basics of elementary math.

In my previous job I was responsible for coming up with strategies to help students study for the SOL test. Due to this, I am proficient with coming up with individualized studying tactics for students. I am especially proficient in math study skills.

My most recent experience with students was as a high school Geometry teacher. I have also tutored privately in this subject.

I've known how to read music for about 15 years. I used to play piano and the clarinet. My most recent music experience was as a member of the College of William and Mary Women's Chorus.

I worked with 7th grade students in this subject. We aimed to meet SOL objectives, and more, in this subject. This was important since the students were in a course that is one or two years ahead of the normal math track.

While I have not taught or tutored pre-calculus, I have the knowledge to do so. Pre-calculus requires Algebra and Trigonometry knowledge. I am proficient in both of these subjects.

In my experience as an Algebra Readiness Instructor and high school Algebra 1 and Geometry teacher, my main focus was to prepare students for math SOL's. I tried my best to make sure my students had the knowledge, the tools, and the strategies to do well on the test.

In many school systems Trigonometry is paired with Algebra 2. I worked with students in the prerequisite to Trigonometry in middle school and high school settings.
