About Sarah

My name is Sarah, and I have been a teacher going on 13 years. I have been working in the high school setting since I was 22 years old. I specialize in Algebra, but I also have experience with Geometry and a little Algebra II. I enjoy helping kids and seeing their confidence build. Math is a course that requires a lot of repetition and practice. Without this, it is difficult to be successful.

As a teacher, I consider myself to be very fair and understanding. I am aware that students have different learning styles and I try to cater to each individuals learning style. As a student, I was not the best in math. Over the years, I have developed an understanding of it and I enjoy learning more and more. Once I began teaching, the light bulb for math just switched on and it all came together. I wish this had happened for me in high school as my grades would have been a lot better, but now I would like to see this happen for the students that I teach.

Along with teaching, I am a former volleyball coach. I coached for 12 years. I decided to step down due to having two young boys of my own. Coaching includes very long days and nights, so I had to make a very tough decision. Sports have always been a part of my life. I enjoy coaching because it can be such a positive outlet for a long day in the classroom. It also helps me develop relationships with students beyond the classroom. I enjoy seeing kids achieve as long as it is positive.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
