I have been a teacher since 2009. I have have worked in classrooms as young as two years of age through fourth grade. After focusing on developmental/child psychology during my undergraduate college experience at Virginia Tech, I decided I really wanted to spend some time in a classroom. I love learning and I intend to pass this on to my students. I then went to James Madison to learn how to be an effective classroom teacher. I spent a year working with preschool aged children, 4 years as a reading specialist (K - 4), a year in third grade, and a year in first grade.
After having my son, I decided that I could not dedicate the time I desired to being the best possible classroom teacher. I choose to resign from my full-time teaching position to further my own education and raise my son. I would love the opportunity to continuing working with young children to help them reach their full potential and find their own passion for new knowledge.
I love a challenge and take pride in my ability to differentiate instruction based on my student's individual needs. As a tutor, I will incorporate the use of technology and personalize lessons to grab attention and make learning fun.
I would be an outstanding elementary tutor based on my own educational background, my experience in the classroom, and my desire to propel children in their personal, positive educational journey.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have a B.S. from Virginia Tech and an M.A.T. from James Madison University. I have been a licensed, employed teacher since 2010.
