Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ACT English

I have proven strategies to help improve scores. I am expert at improving writing skills. I am a strength based tutor which means I will build on your successes to improve your challenges.

ACT Reading

I have test strategies that help students improve their scores. Searching out context clues, drawing correct conclusions and understanding the use of inference will be taught with patience. I will prompt students to compare and contrast ideas and separate facts from opinions in written compositions. We will use on-line practice sites and hard copy materials in session to improve scores and build confidence. These methods work and will keep students motivated by their success and mastery of these skills.

Grammar

I will help you learn the rules of grammar easily. By proofreading your own work you will become the best editor and learn to identify your strengths and challenges. You will develop confidence and improve your writing skills because I will help you write about what you know and enjoy. I have interactive on-line resources that we can practice in session with games and puzzles. Grammar games are more effective than memorizing boring rules.

Proofreading

Proofreading is a great skill. I help students discover their strengths and challenges related to their writing. By being able to read and edit their own work, students will gain confidence with their written language skills. Proofreading will also review and reinforce the rules and construction of written language. I prompt students to organize the content of their compositions and help them develop their voice, point of view and opinions in their written work. I help students navigate the rules of written language with patience and creativity.
