The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (Politics and Italian)
I am an energetic and enthusiastic recent graduate of The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. I double majored in Italian and Global Studies (concentrations in International Politics and Western Europe) and minored in Latin. I graduated with distinction, was inducted into the National Italian Honor Society, and was awarded the Department of Romance Studies' prize for excellence in Italian. As a college junior, I had the opportunity to spend the year studying at L'Universita' di Bologna in Bologna, Italy. I lived with Italian students, spoke exclusively Italian at home and in the classroom, and traveled extensively throughout the country. I focused my studies on Italian politics and culture, and European law. While in Bologna, I taught English classes at the local middle school and provided private tutoring in the evenings. I employed multi-media presentations, games, group activities, and individual exercises to teach English and elements of American culture in an exciting, memorable way.
My high school and college curricula required high-level writing and editing skills. I have vast experience with research papers and essays requiring analysis of novels, poems, Latin passages, etc... I also have experience with newswriting and editing according to Associated Press guidelines. In regard to public speaking, I have performed as a stage actor and given numerous speeches and presentations in front of large crowds. I can confidently help construct speeches, and give pointers on how to be a successful, convincing orator.
I recently graduated with a degree in Global Studies, with a focus on International Politics and Western Europe. In high school, I earned a perfect score of "5" on the AP Comparative Government and Politics exam, as well as the AP US History and AP Human Geography exams. In college, I took courses at UNC and abroad covering American Foreign Policy, Contemporary Political Thought, International Law, Environmental Policy, Representation and Democracy in Europe, etc... I have worked as an intern in the office of a Representative on Capitol Hill. I aspire to serve in the Foreign Service.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have been giving academic speeches and other presentations since elementary school. I am a confident and persuasive public speaker who feels comfortable helping others perfect oratory techniques and craft speeches that are personal, yet professional. The keys to success when speaking in front of a crowd are confidence and preparation. I can be the gentle push you need to help you improve your verbal and nonverbal communication skills.
