About Kristin

I have always loved to help and teach others. I started teaching arts and crafts at a summer camp for children who were deaf and hard of hearing and then I got a job tutoring at risk youth while in college. I graduated with honors from Barton College where I majored in Deaf Education with a concentration in middle school English and Science. Science is my specialty. I have my masters degree in Chemical and Life Sciences from the University of Maryland, College Park with a concentration in Chemistry. I also went through the consortium for visual impairment teaching endorsement from James Madison University.

I've been teaching science (6th - 12th grade) for 11 years. I have a Virginia Teachers License for Deaf Education pre k - 12 and endorsed in Middle School Science and Social Studies, Earth Science, Biology, Visual Impairment, and a provisional licence in special education - general curriculum. I have also taught Ecology, Oceanography, Physics, and Chemistry. I will help students that are struggling or those that need more of a challenge. I am also available for homeschooling sessions.

I want to hear from my students and their families and will not charge for lessons where the student or family are not satisfied with my services. I can do tutoring sessions in home or online.

I am flexible with time and have a 24 hour cancellation policy. If a session is missed I will offer a makeup session.

I look forward to hearing and working with you.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ACT Science

I have tutored students when retaking their ACT test in the science section. My students have always increased their scores. I have taught science for 11 years and am endorsed in almost all sciences from 6 - 12.

I have taught blind students with autism in science for 4 years. I have used choices, physical objects, and other communication devices to interact with these students. I taught deaf students with autism in summer camp for 5 years.
