I'm a 20-year veteran teacher who has taught English, Math, History, Biology, and other subjects. As a special educator, I became qualified to teach all of these subjects while adhering to the state core standards expected. From basic classes to AP, I've been there. The method I employ is the multiple intelligence theory concept, which hones in on the best learning strategy for the SPECIFIC student - NOT what I think should work, or what your teacher might think works best. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. I have taught 18 years in special education, helping students with learning disabilities of all types. My specialty is analyzing the student's learning style and teaching directly to his or her strengths while building up the weaknesses.
Multi-sensory and multiple intelligence learning is my specialty, using much more than just writing and reading to help each student understand the material, no matter what the subject.
To teach guitar in whatever style is requested. I use a computer program that helps students read either regular music or tablature. I have been playing and writing music for over 30 years and keep up with learning music from current bands.
I have taught Algebra, Pre-algebra, and Algebra 2 for nearly a decade in classrooms and in my private business. I have been highly qualified in 3 states and have passed math exams in the two which required it. I have been an educator for 20 years now and have taught math, including Algebra I & II, for many of them.
I have been trained in reading specialist courses and have returned from LETRS - a conference on the science of reading using phonics - and so much more - than the horrid failure of whole language.
This (phonics/morpheme learning) has been endorsed by specialists all over the country.
I have taught low to non-readers from 1st grade to high school with significant results.
I have been teaching math to high school students for over a decade including algebra I, geometry, algebra II, and others.
In my tutoring, I have prepared students and adults for the SAT and Praxis exams for math and state qualifications.
My testing methods include utilizing past exams, psychological test taking strategies, test anxiety, and other techniques.
I have worked in the field of special education for over 15 years now in various populations, various ages. I am certified to teach all grade levels.
