About Dillon

Bio

I have a Masters degree in music education, and a Bachelor's degree in Music Theory. Through my teaching experience of more than 30 years, I have learned how best to help students go beyond the notes to play music with great beauty. I teach with patience and humor, and I make learning fun and easy for each student. I am also a performing pianist, a composer and an arranger.

I teach with patience and humor, and I make learning fun and easy for each student. I am also a performing pianist, a composer and an arranger.

I perform periodically in the DC metro area for special occasions at select venues (i.e. Belle Haven Country Club, Omni Shoreham Hotel, private parties, etc.). I performs various styles of music including classical, jazz, new age, standards, and classic rock.

From my education, I have gained not only a solid foundation and thorough knowledge of music, but also an education and understanding of how to best facilitate learning. I have found especially useful the educational principles of Robert Gagne and of Jerome Bruner.

Music has enriched my life in innumerable ways, and I love sharing the joy of playing music with others. I teach with patience, and humor, and I help my students learn how to go beyond the notes to put beauty into the music that they play.

I have maintained a private music studio for 25 years, and I have been teaching online since March 2020. For online lessons, my grand piano is set up with 2 cameras and a highly sensitive Audio Technica studio microphone. For levels 1-5, I use the Faber & Faber Piano Adventures lesson book series. I teach finger technique through scales, arpeggios, cadences, and Hanon exercises. My favorite classical composer to teach is Fredric Chopin, but I also enjoy teaching new age (i.e. Yiruma, Yann Tiersen, etc.) and Anime (i.e. Joe Hisaishi), and jazz music.
