About Brandon

I was a language master consultant for an undergraduate American Sign Language phonology linguistics course at University California, Davis in the Department of Linguistics.

I also worked in Deaf and Hard of Hearing mainstreamed academic settings where I taught many of Deaf and Hard of Hearing students ASL.

As a Deaf person, I have direct experience with and am personally vested in many aspects of the Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing community. Through my family, I grew up as a member of the Black Deaf community. My early education took place in both hearing and Deaf settings, culminating in graduation from the Arkansas School for the Deaf. Furthermore, my life has taken me to different regions in the southern, eastern, and western regions of the U.S., and now back into the Southwest , helping me as a native ASL user to be an acute observer and learner of regional and cultural varieties of sign languages. I believe these varied sociocultural and sociolinguistic experiences give me a strong foundation for working with a wide range of Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing people -and hearing people who are interested in learning about our community- who also traverse many different life situations. These have also laid the groundwork for the educational and professional experiences that have further contributed to my skill set.

Please feel free to contact me. From there, we will merge our schedules accordingly. I am also flexible about meeting arrangements as long as the location is metro accessible and public (library, starbucks, etc).

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
