The College of William and Mary (Religious Studies)
I have always loved learning and sharing knowledge with others. I graduated from high school with a International Baccalaureate diploma and a 4.0 GPA, and then went on to attend college at William and Mary. At William and Mary I majored in Religious Studies, which allowed me to study history, literature, cultural studies, and ethics. Throughout my academic career I've learned not only the value of hard work, but also the importance of being passionate about learning.
Upon graduating from college I was accepted into Teach for America and taught for two years in southeast Arkansas. My first year I worked as the middle school teacher at an Alternative Learning Environment school, providing individualized attention for students who were struggling both academically and behaviorally. In my second year I transitioned to teaching 7th grade Arkansas History and World History, as well as tutoring 5th grade students in Literacy.
Growing up English was always one of my favorite classes, because I love reading, writing, and engaging with texts in a meaningful way. I look forward to sharing that love with students, whether they are struggling with the basics or looking for help to write the perfect paper.

I found this to be far more effective that focusing on rote memorization. I focus on understanding the implications of important historical events on our lives today, and explain history in a unique vernacular that connects to my students.
Teaching is something I have come back to again and again in my life. Whether it was helping my little brothers with their homework, helping friends study for standardized tests, teaching swing dance and rock climbing, or the years I spent in a traditional classroom I have always loved watching people improve and grow. I look forward to helping you, whatever your academic needs. I have always loved learning and sharing knowledge with others. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
