I have been a certified teacher for 6 years now. As well as being a certified teacher I have also been working with children with special needs (ADHD, autism, LD, ED). As I love teaching large groups of children in a classroom, there is nothing better than having that individual time to spend with a child to help him/her improve in a subject.
I give lots of praise to the student I work with and use hands on materials when needed. I also give the student frequent breaks if that is what the student needs. I find different ways to teach the material if the student does not seem to get the material the first way it is presented.
I enjoy math and believe that with hands on materials math can be enjoyable to learn.
Reading can be fun to learn with the right books and the right materials. Sometimes reading with funny voices, watching a video, using some kind of craft, or hands on materials brings more excitement to reading.
Hands on is always the way to go. There are so many ways to learn! I will make each lesson fun. I research what the student is learning ex: synonyms, and make a game, craft etc. out of it for the student.
If the student needs to sit on the floor, stand next to the table, swing, use letter blocks, I will find a way to make to make each session work. I have 16 years of special needs training.
If you pick me to be your tutor you will find that you and your child will be very happy. You will see improvements in your child's schooling and your child will actually be excited to see me when I walk through the door! I look forward to meeting you and your child. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I am certified in VA pk-6. I have many hands on activities that I like to do with students to make learning fun. I will go on Pinterest to find activities when I tutor and when I teach in my classroom as I want my students to enjoy learning. Learning should NOT be boring but should ALWAYS be fun!
I like using hands on materials such as letter magnets on a cookie sheet, using a tablet to learn, using shaving cream on a table to write letters, using blocks to spelling words. Phonics should be fun for children and using these materials are a way that children will learn phonics better.
