Hello! My name is Alyssa and I have my Bachelor of Science from Virginia Tech with a minor in Spanish. I am a current medical student and am also getting a Master of Public Health degree from Johns Hopkins University. Throughout college, I tutored student athletes in mostly biology, chemistry, and math. It was while tutoring that I noticed the importance of learning styles. Some of the students just needed to find what learning style worked best for them. For example, if I were to translate a word problem into a picture, many of them were able to understand the material much more easily. I continue this practice, working with students of all ages and levels, to help determine the disconnect between the student and the material.
Since college, I have been tutoring high school students in various courses and spent a year abroad teaching math to middle schoolers. I have lots of flexibility in my graduate program so am able to work around your schedule. Please let me know if you have any questions, happy to chat!
Alyssa was the perfect SHSAT math tutor for my 12-year-old daughter. After the lesson, my daughter told me that Alayssa was cool and that she loved working with her! Alyssa is very knowledgeable of the SHSAT math and was able to break the problems down so that my daughter could easily understand them. Equally important was that she was able to connect with my daughter and keep her attention for 1.5 hours.Gerard, 1 lesson with Alyssa
I always understand the math after her lessons. Wish she was my actual teacher. I dunno why there’s a minimum number of words required but she’s a very good teacher. Very polite and clear with explanations.Jamie, 28 lessons with Alyssa

Knowledgeable and patient tutor!
Alyssa asked for the topics beforehand and was very prepared to tutor my son. She helped him understand things way better than his teacher. Definitely we will use her again!Danuta, 15 lessons with Alyssa
