About Tiffany

I provide tutoring in the language arts and humanities; primarily grammar, reading, writing, and public speaking. Because of my study of foreign languages, I have had a great deal of formal education in the details of English grammar. I am also an accomplished and comfortable public speaker with years of experience speaking in front of large and small groups. I have worked with all age groups from elementary school to college, and I'm also happy to help with test preparation.

I also offer tutoring and private instruction for all level of Latin students, from grade school introductory classes to advanced college Latin. I have a masters degree in Latin and 6 years of teaching and tutoring experience with all ages of students.

In addition, I can tutor students taking legal classes, whether a business law class, or legal classes in criminal justice or public administration programs. I received my law degree from Washington and Lee University.

In addition to academic subjects, I offer harp lessons. I have been playing the harp for 24 years, and have been teaching lessons for 14 years.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Anthropology

I have completed college and graduate coursework in cultural anthropology, forensic anthropology, and archaeology. I am currently an adjunct professor of cultural anthropology at a small private college. Experience teaching anthropology to traditional and non-traditional students in an accelerated learning environment.

Classics

I have a bachelors and masters degree in classical languages. I taught classics at the college level for two years, at the elementary school level for one year, and have tutored for 3 years. Within classics I tutor archaeology, ancient history, Latin, Greek, and Western art history.

Criminal Justice

I have completed a law degree with substantial coursework in criminal procedures and pre-trial justice. I have worked with and researched criminal law and public defense systems both in the US and internationally. I tutor only those subjects I have studied myself, criminal procedure, investigations, legal interpretation, and constitutional law.

Elementary (K-6th)

I spent two years teaching 3rd-6th grade Latin and Science in a private school. I've worked with elementary after school programs both on a small group and individual basis. I have tutored elementary aged students for over a year, primarily in reading. I am also comfortable working with elementary children who may have leaning disabilities or who have fallen behind their peers in school.

Greek

I studied Ancient Greek in both undergraduate and graduate school. I have my BA and MA in Classical Languages, which included extensive studies in Ancient Greek. To complete my MA, I was required to take and pass a Greek proficiency exam. I have read extensively in Ancient Greek covering several hundred years of development of regional dialects and language development, including Koine (Biblical) Greek.

Public Speaking

I studied public speaking formally in college and law school. I also participated actively in Toastmasters during graduate school. I have been a guest speaker and presenter at a number of professional conferences, and am very comfortable drafting and delivering speeches to both small and large audiences.
