About Lauren

Hello, my name is Lauren and I currently work with students diagnosed with autism, ADD, and down syndrome at a private school. My students range from 6-12 years old. I am a registered behavior therapist through the Behavior Analyst Certification Board. I am familiar with teaching techniques such as touch math, Edmark Reading program, and Kaufman cards. I have privately tutored everything from French to algebra.

I graduated from Mary Baldwin with my B.S. in psychology. I also have my associate's in human services. In the fall, I will be attending William and Mary to pursue my master's degree in counseling. I hope you will consider me for a tutor.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ADHD

I have done extensive research on ADD/ADHD. I have also been educated in the classroom on the disorder. Personally, I have ADHD, but have learned to successfully manage my symptoms in an academic setting. This will help me tutor other ADD/ADHD individuals.

Anthropology

I have taken several anthropology classes at the undergraduate level. I was required to write papers, complete labs, and read academic journals. I made an A in the classroom portion of the class.

Archaeology

I have taken an archaeology class where I worked in the field on a field conducted by Dr. L. at Roanoke College as well as cleaning and categorizing artifacts for the Virginia Department of Historic Resources. I also completed a classroom section where we learned about various techniques for surveying, excavation, and preservation.

Microsoft Access

I have taken a computer class that devoted several weeks to Microsoft Access. We worked on several chapters and completed graded class assignments, home work assignments, and tests. I got an A in the class as well as all my assignments.

Public Speaking

I have completed a public speaking class as well as an oral communication class. I have successfully given an informative, persuasive, ceremonial, and self-introduction speeches. I have also done reports, biographical reports, and character skits. For each of these various types of speeches and reports, I was required to submit formal outlines. I also used visual aids in a few projects.

Soccer

I played soccer for several years at various positions. I am very familiar with the rules, regulations, skills, and techniques of the sport. I played into high school.

Sociology

I have completed undergraduate sociology courses that require graded homework assignments, class assignments as well as papers. I received As for the classes. I also have at my disposal a current sociology textbook to use as a reference.

Special Needs

I work with children diagnosed with autism, ADD, and Down Syndrome at a private school that specializes in Applied Behavior Analysis. I am registered Behavior Technician through the Behavior Analyst Certification Board. In this role, I work with 2 children over the course of the school day. I teach children reading, math, prevocational skills, and independent living skills.

Track & Field

I ran track and field for several years successfully. I received one-on-one instruction from a professional coach on running techniques. I have done lots of research on the best techniques and training plans.

Writing

As in the following English Classes:
Advanced Placement English (3 on the AP exam).
English 101 (taken in high school).
English 102 (taken in high school).

Major Papers written during academic career:
-15 page paper Art History Paper on Duchess of Devonshire and her influence on Political Society during the 18th Century.
-10 page paper on Margaret Mead's Contributions to Sociology and Society.
-10 page paper on Women's Socioeconomic Standing during the 20th Century.
-8 page paper on the Rise of Rome and the Development of the Roman Roads.
-10 page paper on the German Theologian, Dietrich Bonhoeffer, during the Third Reich.

I have also written many more smaller paper on subjects such as the Black Plague, The New Testament, Psychology, Medieval England, and Sociology. I am familiar with APA, MLA, and Chicago style formatting.
