I have been a private tutor for more than ten years, and I love to see students gain confidence as they learn new skills. In addition to my tutoring experience, I work part time as an ESL and Spanish instructor for an international language school, offering both face-to-face and online lessons. I am a very patient teacher, using the natural conversational approach to learning so that my students develop an "ear" for the language rather than memorizing vocabulary and grammar rules. In addition, I've been learning a second language (Spanish) since I was 11 years old, so I understand how frustrating it is when you struggle to communicate your thoughts but don't have the vocabulary to express yourself. Let me help you develop your listening comprehension and improve your ability to speak, read, and write English fluently!
Spanish

Spanish

I first started studying Spanish in 6th grade and have continued to build my fluency for nearly 40 years. I've been a high school Spanish teacher and currently work part time as an instructor for an international language school. I've been tutoring for well over a decade with students from junior high to college level, as well as adult professionals who want to improve their ability to communicate in the workplace. I'm very comfortable conversing in Spanish and have a strong command of grammar, vocabulary, and cultural context. Most importantly, I love teaching and try to make it engaging and enjoyable.

When I was in high school, I scored in the 700's on my SAT's, and in college, I was placed in the Honors English class. I have always been very strong in composition and vocabulary, and enjoy sharing my love of language with my students. Learning proper English grammar, spelling, composition, and pronunciation is essential to building a successful career in any field.

Knowledgeable and patient teacher

Karen is a very patient and encouraging teacher. She is able to teach in a way that makes understanding Spanish grammar rules easier. She tailors the lessons to what the student is interesting in learning/improving on. She is flexible with her tutoring hours to accommodate when the student can have lessons. She makes learning Spanish seem less intimidating.

Wonderful Tutor

Karen took the time to explain and elaborate upon concepts that she was teaching me in the lessons. She went into great detail and is very nice during the lesson. I highly recommend using Karen for a tutor, as she is very helpful and is wonderful at teaching Spanish.

Wonderful teacher!

Karen worked with my daughter on high school Spanish. My daughter said she learned more in her one hour tutoring session than she has learned all week in her Spanish class at school! Very flexible scheduling. Was just what we needed. Very pleased and would definitely recommend!

Tutor responded:

Thanks for your positive comments, Susan. I'm so glad I could help your daughter understand the verb tenses she was struggling with in her class. She's a very bright and capable student.

Wonderful!!

Karen is really the best. She is patient and continues to build confidence in my son. My boy was unfortunately behind at his school (not known to us because he had all "B's" in the class. ..spanish 1) then when we decided to home school him and found out how behind he really was we enlisted Karen to help. Great decision because in a matter of weeks she was able to bring him right up to speed so we would recommend her highly.
