I am a VCU Alumnus for the Class of 2022. I graduated with University Honors, manga cum laude, and a Bachelor of Science Degree in Chemistry. I have tutored Math and Science courses at the College and High School levels for 3+ years. I have found that tutoring has enabled me to make a positive impact on the students and to show them why they are learning about a particular subject. I have also seen the importance of finding approaches in order to solve a problem.
During tutoring sessions, I will incorporate real-world applications along with practice questions from an appropriate textbook depending on the subject. I will use an online whiteboard that I encourage the student to use while explaining a concept, especially when solving problems so I can see where they are making mistakes. It is important for me that I do not give away the answer, I want to ensure the student can get the correct answer with guidance. My goal as a tutor is to ensure that students feel comfortable solving a complex problem by breaking it up into smaller more manageable pieces.

I have tutored students in both Calculus and Precalculus. I believe that I am an outstanding tutor in these subjects because I know how challenging they can become if one looks at the big picture without knowing what they are looking at. For example, one would find it very difficult to find the derivative of a function if they do not understand polynomials. Based on this, whenever I am tutoring these subjects I try to break these concepts down to pinpoint where the confusion is occurring.

My degree is in Chemistry and my concentration was focused on biochemistry. Out of all the subjects I tutor, science is my strongest suit, especially biology and chemistry. Also, as a prerequisite for pharmacy school, the human anatomy course has shown me how biology and chemistry go hand-and-hand with one another in order to make us who we are. If possible, I would be showing videos of particular concepts if the student relies on visuals.
