I started tutoring in 2019 as an undergrad student at Virginia Commonwealth University. I majored in both French and Spanish and recently graduated with dual degrees. This fall I plan on moving to France to teach English as a second language to high school aged students. I'm also independently learning Tagalog and American Sign Language.

I like to have tutoring sessions that are student run. This means that the student and I spend the first five or so minutes discussing what we want to get done in the session. This looks like concrete goals and specific topic areas to cover. If you're unsure, no worries, it'll be a collaborative effort.
In addition to languages, I also tutored college aged students in Elementary Algebra. I've done this in both formal and informal settings. Formally with VCU students and informally with friends and family members. I've always enjoyed math because the concepts can be a bit abstract. A tutoring session is a great way to consider the different ways in which people understand the math.
I've studied Spanish for 4 years now and French for 8. Speaking both of these languages has allowed me personally to have a deeper understanding of how language itself works. One of the most difficult parts of learning a language is often the foreign concepts that exist in one language, but not another. Another common problem that people run into is issues with pronunciation and sentence structures. I can pull upon my own language learning experience to help navigate the many roadblocks that come with language learning.
I absolutely love tutoring, it's a great way to make a connection with a student and share a common goal. Lots of times students will come into appointments stressed to the max! It's my job to help relieve some of that stress. Please feel free to contact me with any questions or to set up an appointment. I look forward to hearing from you!
