About Stephanie

In 2014, I earned a Bachelor of Arts in English and Spanish with a focus in writing and editing. A dedicated educator and professional, I have an extensive background in English, linguistics, and second language studies. I have tutored in a variety of contexts, working with undergraduate and graduate students at my University's Writing Center; high school students with my local Boys and Girls Club; and private clients in Richmond, Virginia. I also had the opportunity to travel throughout Central America for six months in 2010, where I gained fluency in Spanish and became familiar with Latin American history and culture. I am an expert writer and communicator in both English and Spanish, and my thorough knowledge of linguistics (phonetics and syntax) makes me especially qualified to help second language learners. While I am an effective and capable tutor for a broad range of subjects, I am most passionate about English, Spanish, and ESL, for I believe that strong communication skills are the foundation for success.

Cultivating a positive relationship with my clients is important to me, and I am proud to say that I have received an abundance of positive feedback from long-term clients throughout my career. I feel incredibly honored to take part in helping others achieve their academic and professional goals, which is why I have made tutoring such a huge part of my life. I pride myself on my ability to help struggling students become lifelong, self-sufficient learners both inside and outside of the classroom.

Currently I am planning on earning my Juris Doctor, and I am pleased to report that I have been accepted to several of the nation's top law schools. I will be matriculating as a law student for the fall 2017 semester.

I have extensive experience in Spanish tutoring, and I have studied Spanish as a second language learner for over 15 years. I have also had the opportunity to travel throughout the Spanish-speaking world. I am trained in linguistics, specifically in the areas of phonetics (pronunciation) and syntax, and I am qualified to tutor Spanish learners at any level.

My years of experience as an English tutor and writing consultant make me an excellent English tutor. In addition to being an experienced tutor, I am a trained professional copyeditor, making me an excellent resource for those who want help writing their essays.

I scored a 164 on the LSAT (89th percentile). I am an expert in LSAT test taking strategy and can help you master the concepts quickly.

I am currently accepting new clients. If you feel that we are a good fit for each other, please feel free to drop me a messageā€”I would love to work with you!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

English

I hold a Bachelor of Arts in English and have worked with student learners of all ages. I am trained in linguistics with a specialization in phonetics (pronunciation) and syntax (grammar and sentence construction), placing me in an excellent position to teach students who are developing their language and writing skills.

LSAT

I am an experienced LSAT test taker: I have taken over 30 complete practice tests and have spent countless hours reviewing the necessary fundamental concepts. I am extremely familiar with this test, and I can help you spot the wrong answers which are meant to trip you up. The key to success with the LSAT is speed--you must be able to quickly sort through information and recognize rhetorical concepts and strategies. My first time taking the test, I scored a 164 (89th percentile). My success with the LSAT has been a game changer for me, and I am proud to say that I have been offered substantial scholarships from three of Virginia's top four law schools. I am confident that I can help you achieve a great score too!

Proofreading
