About Matthew

I hold a master’s degree in Exercise Physiology and a graduate minor in Epidemiology from the University of Tennessee and am currently completing the dissertation requirement for my doctorate in Rehabilitation and Movement Sciences at Virginia Commonwealth University. I have served as an instructor for several biological sciences and statistical analyses courses at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. In addition, I have authored seven scientific publications that have been archived in the National Library of Medicine database. Importantly, I single-handedly performed each of the statistical analyses in these reports. My statistical software platform of choice is SPSS.

Although I am new to Wyzant, I have an invaluable combination of experience in both leading a classroom and in reviewing course material with students one-on-one during my office hours. I am particularly interested in tutoring high school and college (including graduate) students in areas of biological and social sciences, mathematics, and statistics.

My plan for each tutoring session is to promote learning by focusing on the student's individual learning style. As a University-level instructor, I have learned to deliver the same course information in countless ways to match a given student's needs.

I look forward to helping you just as I have done for my students over the past 4 years.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Nutrition

I independently developed the curriculum for a graduate course on metabolism and nutrition (HEMS 550: Exercise, Nutrition and Weight Management) at Virginia Commonwealth University. In addition, I have published papers in peer-reviewed scientific journals that include the prestigious "American Journal of Clinical Nutrition" and "Metabolism." I serve as an invited Editor for the Journal of Clinical Nutrition.
