In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
When I worked as a second grade teacher I had extensive training on Common Core standards because we were adopting them in our state. I had two years of training with these standards. I went to summer sessions to learn how to implement the standards in my classroom. I had monthly meetings with principal, teachers and a Common core specialist that helped us through the learning process.
Hello! I have a Bachelors degree in Elementary Education K-6 that I received from Shepherd University in 2009. From there I went on to further my education and obtained a Masters degree in Special Education specializing in Multi-categorical disabilities.
I taught two years in the special education field. I then taught two years in second grade. While teaching second grade I taught math, reading, spelling, science, social studies and vocabulary. I used a variety of hands on learning to help my students achieve success in the classroom. My students were always top scorers in math and reading on most diagnostic tests.
I have worked 2 years in the special education field and 2 years as a second grade teacher with my students being most improved from beginning of the school year to the end. I also taught math at the college level.
I taught second grade which used phonics for teaching children how to read. I used phonics in small group and large group to help students get to grade level in reading. I used phonics lessons during intervention with students to help them master their reading skills. I use hands in learning with phonics as well as listening to then student read and allowing them to read below grade level to build confidence.
