About Maggie

I am a graduate of the University of Mary Washington located in Fredericksburg, Virginia. I have a wealth of experience working with students at athletic camps, summer enrichment programs and within schools. I spent this past academic year serving as a history instructor at Christchurch School in Christchurch, VA. In this role, I taught four history classes, coached cross-country and lacrosse, was a dorm parent, and an advisor. I designed and co-taught a ninth grade multi-disciplinary honors course.

I taught ninth grade regional history and eleventh grade U.S. History and government. All of my classes were grounded in writing fundamentals where many assessments required students to utilize primary and secondary sources to create original work assessing different moments in history.

Currently, I am serving with AmeriCorps as a literacy intervention tutor at Fair Oaks Elementary in Henrico County, VA. I facilitate annual benchmark assessments for students, conduct 1:1 tutoring sessions using evidence-based interventions and analyze progress monitoring and benchmark data within a RtL framework.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
