About Alexandra

In high school I would tutor underclassmen in order to prepare them for AP tests, SOLs, and the SATs. I like to help people excel and do their best, and tutoring is a great way to do that! I have always received high marks on English examinations in particular and would like to use what I have learned to help others achieve great things. I am very strong in particular with writing, but am apt with vocabulary and grammar as well. Additionally, I have a great love of reading and particularly enjoy classic literature, and would love to pass that passion on to others.

I have been a teaching assistant for a college writing course. Additionally, I have experience with teaching kids ages 5-7 reading, writing, and vocabulary, and served in an unofficial capacity as a writing coach for underclassmen preparing for AP, SAT, and SOL tests when I was in high school. I was a member of the Gifted Program as well as the Gifted Art Program, as well as a valedictorian.

I am now currently an art major and would love to pass on my training to others! Providing constructive critique for others to improve their art and feel confident in what they have already accomplished has been a daily part of my life for seven years now. I am well qualified to help students improve both their technical virtuosity as well as their conceptual development. I can help students improve techniques in a variety of mediums, including pencil, color pencil, pen and ink, watercolor, acrylic, chalk pastel, and oil pastel.

The first meeting will be mainly a discussion with the student and parent or guardian for me to see at what point they are in their education, and what particular subjects and issues they need help with. I understand that school can be very overwhelming, so most work will take place within the tutoring session.

Homework assignments will be designed to work with the student's current school curriculum. Tutoring sessions will revolve around teaching skills that can be applied at school, and evaluating the progress of mastering these skills as time goes on.

I look forward to hearing from you and helping you to succeed!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Drawing

I am currently an art major and have had many, many classes regarding improving my drawing skills. I will focus on teaching the elements of art and the principles of design, improving technical skill, and concept development. I can teach drawing in a variety of mediums, including pencil, pen and ink, chalk pastel, and oil pastel. Additionally, I can tell when methods are working for the student and when they are not, and can work one-on-one with the student to tailor their tutoring experience for their individual needs.

Painting

As an art major, I have significant experience with painting. I can teach acrylic, watercolor, and tempera as well as painting techniques, brush maintenance, etc. I can help the student develop their own style supplemented with technical skills.
