About Elizabeth

As a former elementary school teacher and mother of three, I have years of experience in teaching children in group settings and one-on-one. I love helping kids grow, learn and discover new strengths. With a master’s degree in elementary education I am comfortable tutoring in all subject areas, as well as teaching effective study habits and test-prep as necessary. I am particularly passionate about reading and writing and would love to help your child not only improve in these areas, but fall in love with reading and writing.

Tutoring individuals or small groups allows me to customize lessons for each unique student. No two children learn in the exact same way, and and I enjoy the flexibility and creativity of incorporating the interests and learning styles of each student into what we are studying. This often helps get kids excited about a subject that may have become difficult or discouraging for them in the past.

I communicate and collaborate regularly with parents and teachers to ensure we are all on the same page about the student’s learning. I am happy to tutor wherever is convenient for your family, but recommend a place that is quiet and free from distractions, such as the library. Contact me to set up a consultation and see if I would be a good fit for your child!

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Elementary (K-6th)

I have a master's degree in Elementary Education from James Madison University, which included student teaching experiences in 5 different locations and grade levels over a three year period. I then taught fourth grade in Fairfax County Public Schools for two years. I now homeschool my son.
