Bio

After a rewarding teaching career in independent college preparatory schools, I retired in June 2014 to focus on tutoring individuals. Over the years I have enjoyed the opportunity to present graphing calculator workshops at mathematics and education conferences including the Teachers Teaching with Technology International Conference, and I make it a point to keep up with innovations in educational technology (this includes software such as GeoGebra, TI Nspire and Geometer's Sketchpad).

My experience as a classroom teacher in variety of courses including AP Calculus, Probability/Statistics, Pre-Calculus, College Algebra and Trigonometry, and Geometry qualifies me as a tutor for a wide range of students. I have also taught advanced mathematics courses including Finite Mathematics and Matrix Theory. I have been successful in the classroom and as a tutor because I make it a point to learn the most effective method of working with an individual student.

In general, I have found that students who wish to benefit from tutoring belong to one of three categories. Some are struggling with their current mathematics course, others are doing fine but wish to get ahead, and yet other students desire additional reinforcement to maintain their skills. Regardless of which category you belong to, I can help you achieve your goals. If you wish to improve your confidence and performance in mathematics, I can provide a perspective that will benefit your efforts.

Statistics

Statistics

I enjoy working with Statistics students because of my experience teaching AP Statistics and Probability/Statistics in independent college preparatory schools. In addition, I focused on applied statistics during my graduate program. I have presented several workshops at professional conferences in which I demonstrated the power of the statistical functions of TI-84 graphing calculator.

Fantastic tutor!

I would not have made it through my biostatistics class without Jeff! He is a kind, friendly and very knowledgeable tutor who has a gift for teaching. He was great at explaining and simplifying the material for me and sharing tips and tricks not found in the textbook using the scientific calculator. I had always struggled in math but Jeff managed to make it easy and interesting. He was also very accommodating and flexible on the times we could meet.

Great College Calculus tutor

We contacted Jeff for immediate help in assisting our son in preparing for a calculus final. He was quick to respond to our request, contacted us telephonically to establish a rapport and set up tutoring times that were convenient. He was prompt and very courteous upon arrival. He quickly established trust with our son and assessed rapidly his knowledge of the subject, his areas of apprehension and those which he needed to rebuild confidence or understand the concepts. He did not waste any time in guiding him through problems, reviewing the basic foundation and building at a comfortable speed those areas he needed help in. Easy to understand, very approachable and best of all directing, pushing, pulling and helping at the right pace offering feedback and useful strategies. A seasoned professor who instills confidence. We have more sessions scheduled. We anticipate good results. Highly recommend him as a tutor!

Great lesson!

Jeff provided a great first lesson today. His ability to teach in a visual manner with diagrams and such was extremely helpful for our daughter as she is a visual learner. She found it very easy to follow him and is looking forward to her next lesson. Much thanks
