Hi! I have years of teaching AND learning experiences. Before I became an ESOL teacher, I was an elementary classroom teacher. When I changed schools one year, I had a classroom of 21 fifth graders... only 3 of them were Americans and the rest were from all over the world. I fell in love with these students because as I was teaching them, they were teaching me... I learned that I had discovered my true path and my passion became teaching English as a second language. I spent a semester doing a Study Abroad program in Perugia, Italy... I became the foreign student so I could know similar experiences as my students. I learn so much from my students and it is so rewarding to help them learn English and become successful in American schools. I have been an ESOL teacher in elementary schools and presently am teaching in middle school. Also, I have taught English to foreign adults... many have been relatives of my students. I love tutoring and building relationships with foreign students because I want to help them acclimate to their new life, become confident, independent, and successful!
I have a Master's degree (MAEd) from the College of William & Mary in Teaching Reading, Language, and Literacy. I am certified in Virginia and Maryland as a K-12 ESOL Teacher and as a K-12 Reading Specialist.
I have 15+ years teaching elementary school. My Virginia teaching certifications include Early Childhood Education (PreK-4th grade) and Elementary Education (K-6th grade).
Do you want to learn/improve your reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills in English? Do you want to have fun while learning with a teacher who is motivating and encouraging? Lessons are individualized and designed especially for you based on your needs and interests. Students of all ages and levels are welcome! In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
