My name is Kashira and I have a passion for helping students like you gain a better understanding of subjects that you may need help in. I graduated with honors with a B.A. in Religious Studies and an M.A. in Theology. Throughout my life, I have loved learning and being able to give back to young people in my community. Tutoring has enabled me to do both. I first began tutoring my peers one on one and in study groups while in High School as a part of my duty to the National Honors Society. I also tutored at a local community center with underserved youth to obtain volunteer hours. While I have knowledge in various subjects, my favorite subjects to tutor have always been math and Spanish. In fact, I continued to take advanced math and Spanish courses throughout my academic career and tutored for four years while in college and then for another two years while in grad school. I love math because it teaches you to think and each new concept learned builds upon previous concepts. I have taken over 7 years of Spanish and have come to love the language and culture. By having various teachers and professors with different teaching styles, I learned the importance of being able to break down challenging material in a way that is more understanding.

It has been rewarding for me to be able to journey alongside students as they strive to do their best in school and in life. I enjoy seeing the "aha" moment on a student's face once they have a breakthrough on a particular concept that they have been struggling with. A lot of my tutoring expertise has been refined through teaching math and Spanish for the past 3.5 years in the public school system. I am able to utilize practice worksheets and notes as well as various teaching strategies learned from teaching to aid students in understanding the material. I have found that having students work in small groups, making learning hands-on, and incorporating technology allows students to remain engaged and better grasp the material.

In the more than 9.5 years of tutoring experience that I have obtained, I have learned that being able to reach students where they are at is a vital key to them understanding the material and excelling in it. I traditionally tutor one on one but I am open to small group tutoring especially if students need help preparing for an exam. I often begin lessons by asking students to show me any notes or worksheets on the topics that they are struggling with so that I can get a feel for the pacing of the class and how the concept is being taught. I then clarify what was taught in school by explaining the topic in a different way, doing practice problems step by step, and then having students walk me through a few problems.

I look forward to working with students of all ages to help you gain a better grasp of the material that you are learning in school. My schedule is flexible so feel free to contact me to schedule a lesson.
