About Rita

As an IT Help Desk Support Professional, I am experienced in assisting adults with complex computer issues. I like helping people to become more confident and self-sufficient with many subjects including math, English, and technology. I enjoy translating technical jargon, and coaching and mentoring folks to learn by doing. I like assisting people to find the answers for themselves. When this is done, I sincerely believe that people will learn the material better and will be more successful in remembering how things are done.

I hold two undergraduate degrees: one in Music Education and one in Information Systems. My Master's degree is in Theology and Missions. While these degrees do not show my specialties, I am very passionate about math and English. I was a successful public speaker with Toastmasters International for twelve years where I helped speakers and evaluators with their grammar while speaking. My first choice when deciding a major in college was Math and I was accepted as a Math major at Virginia Commonwealth University, although I decided to follow a different path.

I am an award winning public Speaker, winning at the state level while participating in Toastmasters International. As an IT Professional, I am very logical and analytical. In high school, my favorite math subjects were Algebra and Geometry; in English class, grammar and spelling were my favorites. Now as an adult, logic puzzles thrill me.

I am a down-to-earth person who loves to see students succeed. English, math, music, and technology are my passions and strengths. If you want to better comprehend and understand any of these subjects, I am the person to call.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

I have studied the Bible for over 40 years. I have a Master's degree in Theology from Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. My coursework included Old Testament I and II and New Testament I and II, in addition to Personal Spiritual Disciplines and Theology I and II.

I have an undergraduate degree in Instrumental Music Education from Virginia Commonwealth University, with my major instrument being Bass Clarinet. While student teaching, I taught private Clarinet lessons for many students. For ten years after graduation, I was certified to teach PK - 12 Instrumental Music in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
