About Emily

I am currently enrolled at Virginia Commonwealth University as a Liberal Studies for Early and Elementary Education major with a double minor in both English and French. I have been tutoring students since high school in a variety of English-related subjects.

I received 5s on both the AP English Literature exam and the AP English Language exam, and got As in all six English classes I took throughout high school. Additionally, I wrote for both my high school's student newspaper and literary magazine as well as currently on one of VCU's student-run online magazines. I was a teacher's aid my senior year, and am continuing to be an aid at a local elementary school this upcoming semester. I babysit and love working with children of all ages. (Adults, too!)
If you are interested in contacting me in regards to tutoring, I will send you a copy of my resume with references and examples of my writing. If you'd like any additional information or have any questions, please feel free to ask!

Organizational skills, Study techniques and skills, Essay editing

I have been involved in the world of theatre since I was ten years old. Since then, I have been an actor in several musicals and straight plays, both for my high school and in local community theater. I was the president of my high school's Thespian Troupe my senior year, and received the "Best Thespian" award from the faculty. I read plays in my spare time, and have even written one which I casted and directed for my senior project. I auditioned and was accepted to Virginia Tech, Christopher Newport University and James Madison University as a theatre major.

Please feel free to get in touch with me if you have any questions! I am more than willing to help you or your child with anything that I can!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

English

I received a 5 on both the AP English Literature and AP English Language exams. I write for one of VCU's online magazines and have written for school newspapers and literary magazines in the past.

Theatre

I have been involved in the world of theatre since I was ten years old. Since then, I have been an actor in several musicals and straight plays, both for my high school and in local community theater. I was the president of my high school's Thespian Troupe my senior year, and received the "Best Thespian" award from the faculty. I read plays in my spare time, and have even written one which I casted and directed for my senior project. I auditioned and was accepted to Virginia Tech, Christopher Newport University and James Madison University as a theatre major but switched last minute as I did not want to do it for a career. I have directed short plays and have a wide range of knowledge of playwrights, musicals and straight plays.

Writing

I have gotten a 5 on both the AP English Literature and Language exams. I took six English classes in high school and received an A as a final grade in each one. Additionally, I am planning on minoring in English in college and write for one of VCU's online magazines.
