About Christopher

My name is Chris and I am a current undergraduate physics major. I have worked with other students on my campus and helped them with both physics and calculus. I am working towards a B.S. in physics, and love the subject. I have been able to help some students be able to get better grades, and would be glad if I were able to help more to succeed in the subject.

I began tutoring other students that needed help with math and physics in my freshman year of college. I would say that my approach to tutoring is very hands on. In a classroom, it can be very easy to get lost in a subject if you are not working with it yourself. One of the best ways to do well in math and physics, is to work through a number of problems. This is the idea behind assigning homework problems, but a common issue with assignments is that in the classroom is that there is not enough emphasis on how to approach a problem in a way that makes it easier to solve. One of the best ways to get better at solving problems is to have someone help with the process of breaking down the problem.

In my experience, working one-on-one to solve a problem goes farther towards understanding than simply sitting in a classroom. I also am a firm believer in having to actually work through problems to truly understand a subject such as math or physics. Before any beginning tutoring sessions, I check with you to see what area you want to improve in, and prepare problems with a range of difficulty to work through with you. In the sessions, I will do my best to help you through the thinking process for these problems in a way that will allow you to complete other problems on your own.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

SAT Math

Current college level math major. On my first SAT I got 760 on the math section, the next time I missed only one question as I ran out of time, and got a 780.
