About Grant

I graduated from William and Mary in 2006 with double majors in English and Elementary Education. I later earned a Master's in Journalism from Arizona State University and worked at two newspapers prior to returning to Virginia, where I'll begin my fifth year of full-time teaching this fall. I'm presently certified to teach middle-school English in Virginia.

I scored in the 99th percentile on the English portion of the GRE, earned multiple awards as a professional journalist, and have experience tutoring students for both high-school and college entrance writing exams.

I have had five years' experience of teaching in local elementary schools, and have extensive knowledge of how to build students' skills and confidence as they become better readers and writers.

I'm able to tutor any subject and have experience working with students of all ages, and would love the opportunity to help your child make great strides this summer. Let's work together so that your child can be ready to excel in school this fall!

I look forward to hearing from you, and am ready to get started as soon as possible!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Literature

I hold an English degree from the College of William and Mary. I'm presently certified to teach middle-school English in Virginia. I have extensive knowledge of American and European literature, from the Medieval through the present. I remain an avid reader and look forward to sharing my passion with your students.

Phonics

I majored in Elementary Education from The College of William and Mary in 2006. I've worked for four years in local elementary schools, where I've developed extensive experience using various approaches to improve students' phonetic skills. I'm comfortable working with students of all ages to help them build their phonetic skills and academic confidence.

Reading

I earned an English major from The College of William and Mary and a Master's in Journalism from Arizona State University. During my time as a student and as a professional writer and teacher I've become adept at the skills required to read and evaluate diverse texts. I scored in the 99th percentile on the English portion of the GRE and am confident in my ability to share my expertise with students of all ages.
