About Jana

I am a graduate from Virginia Commonwealth University with a Masters in Teaching. I am currently a 3rd grade teacher and have experience with grades pre-k through 6th. I recently worked for the public schools in a variety of grades assisting with lessons and supporting struggling students. I love to come up with creative ways to help children grow in reading and math!
I have experience with ages 3 and up. For the younger ages, some areas we would work on are concept of word, letter recognition and letter sounds. For older students we would focus on accuracy and fluency while reading. I will provide a customized word sorts for students and help them get on reading level for their grade. I like to meet in the local library or another public place. I am very motivated and enthusiastic about helping children and encouraging them until they know that they can do it.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
