Hi there! I'm Niral - I'm a chemist who just loves to teach. And tough as it can be to find someone who writes out organic mechanisms for fun...you've found him!

I've taught and tutored at the University of Southern California and Wake Forest over the last 8 years, including being a TA for both General and Organic Chemistry. I started tutoring students in in the athletic department at USC as well as working as a supplemental instruction (SI) leader for fellow undergrads. In my time in graduate school, I got to tutor nearly 200 students privately and spent a lot of time with my lecture students outside of class, throwing them pizza parties for their lab sections, late night study sessions, and impromptu lectures in the hallway outside of my research lab. I just love to teach, and nothing beats seeing the “click” moment for one of my students, when everything just falls into place.

By training, my expertise is in synthetic organic chemistry, specializing in photochemistry of organic molecules, both for the absorptive properties and intramolecular charge transfer. I’ve been lucky enough to publish 8 papers on the topic, and been awarded 2 patents as well. If you were looking for another way to put it...I'm a complete nerd.

My goal in life has always to be a teacher -- having learned from fantastic AP Biology and AP Chemistry teachers in high school, and exceptional professors at USC and Wake. My teachers taught me to take great pride in the success of my students, which is why I like to take time to not only teach, but get to know them on a personal level as well.

If I'm not in the lab or dancing around the kitchen with chemistry books all over the floor -- Top Chef blaring in the background -- chances are I'm looking for a student to work with. Just give me a buzz! :)

Chemistry

Chemistry

I taught and tutored Chemistry at the University of Southern California as well as Wake Forest University, having taught nearly 100 students. My students not only gave me excellent ratings as a TA, but many asked me to tutor them privately after their semester with me ended. Since then, I have worked as an online tutor for Chemistry as well, and have earned nearly 160 positive reviews for the way that I simplify and teach the subject. I love teaching, and there's nothing better than chemistry (in my very biased opinion)!

Math

ACT Math

ACT Math

After graduate school, I chose to start tutoring online and have been a tutor for algebra, trigonometry, and geometry for the last few years. Math is very important to my field of study (chemistry), and I enjoy teaching students from middle school, high school, and college as well. I like to change the complicated concepts into easy-to-understand real-world scenarios, so people avoid the phrase "when am I ever going to need this?" Turns out...we use it a lot more than we think!

Clarinet

Clarinet

I have been proficient at clarinet for the last 13 years, having played in various ensembles, including the Blue Lake International Northern Winds, Midland Concert Band, H.H. Dow High School Symphonic Band, Symphony Orchestra, and most recently, with the University of Southern California Trojan Marching Band, and the Symphonic Concert Band In addition to playing in all of these ensembles, I was concertmaster for all by 2 of these ensembles, being the first chair clarinetist. I perform and have taught regularly, including a performance with the L.A. Philharmonic during College Invitational Night.

Science

ACT Science,

ACT Science

I've been a tutor for the ACT and SAT for many years, having helped students boost their scores and have fun along the way. As a synthetic chemist, my background is in science, and I like to use that to give real-world examples to make the material more interesting, as well as helping my students pinpoint exactly what they should be looking for. I worked with two large test prep organizations for a few years, but found that working one-on-one is much more effective, personable, and most of all, FUN! I like to take the time to get to know my students and be available to them during and outside of our lessons, and learn their strengths and weaknesses so we can make the most of our time together. I try to be a 24 hour tutor, whether that means making them personalized study sheets in my free time, or writing them practice problems...or just letting them rant if they need to :) Face it - we all do!

Organic Chemistry

Organic Chemistry

I have spent the last 9 years performing undergraduate and graduate level research in synthetic organic chemistry. I tutored for the Supplemental Instruction (SI) program at USC, and have published 8 papers in the synthetic organic field, mostly recently involving symmetry breaking intramolecular charge transfer. My most recent research project involves synthesis of overcrowded systems of aromatic alkenes, which requires me to understand complex organic synthesis as well as spectroscopic techniques. I have taught 5 semesters of organic chemistry at Wake Forest University, and at the high school level as well. Currently I'm a synthetic chemist at Virginia Commonwealth University, but like to spend any and all free time teaching! I like making chemistry relatable and fun...because let's face it - it's always fun to make your professor cry when they see 5 bonds to carbon. :)

Superb tutor!

Niral is the best! He knows his material extremely well. I had him for Organic Chemistry Lab and he explained the concepts in a way that was easily comprehensible. He is patient and willing to spend extra time with you if you need it. I absolutely recommend him.

Chemistry becomes fun with Niral :)

Niral is a super enjoyable and chill dude while staying professional. He puts chemistry in terms that are super straightforward which I appreciate so much. Chem can seem complicated, but Niral simplifies things and tries to make it fun in the meantime!

Charismatic and Extremely Intelligent

Honestly, Niral is the absolute best tutor I have ever gotten to help from (and I have had quite a few tutors over my lifetime). Niral helped me learn and feel comfortable with organic chemistry and is now assisting me with organic chem MCAT review. He is super knowledgeable, to the point, and so fun to work with. He makes complicated topics seem so simple and explains things in interesting ways that make me want to learn. I could not recommend him more!

Best Organic Chemistry Tutor

I've been trying to find a tutor on here for so long that understands NMR spectroscopy well and so far Niral has been the only one. You can tell how knowledgable he is by how well he explains everything and how easily he is able to identify compounds on a spectra. Organic chemistry is a difficult subject but in just one lesson Niral made me feel so much more confident in it.

Niral is very knowledgeable, fun and kind tutor.

We went over SN1, SN2,E1,E2 and he made it so easy to understand because we did a general review first of all mechanisms. He also write down important concepts and key terms that will help me remember information. Do not hesitate to schedule a lesson with him, he is a kind, smart and funny guy. I particular liked the verbal and written examples he mentioned. As well, I felt free to ask questions without feeling embarrassed.

Exceptionally Gifted Organic Chemistry Teacher

Organic chemistry is the hardest course I’ve ever taken and Niral made it look easy. We met weekly to go over notes and questions. Niral was my main source of understanding the material. Through his humor, patience and multifaceted approach to the material I was able to perform exceedingly well. He is a true master of the subject and a gifted teacher. Niral is the type of tutor you want on your team. Thank you, Niral! You’re such a blessing and I almost wish I had more chemistry to take!!

the MOST amazing tutor you will ever encounter!

Niral is one of the most patient, knowledgeable, and personable teacher I have ever learned from. Words cannot express how much he helped me! He was able to explain everything so throughly and eloquently each session. Overall my grade in Organic Chemistry improved from getting low C’s on my exams/quizzes to A’s within a couple sessions! When we would go through concepts in O. Chem he was able to break down each step for me and made it easy to read and beautiful to look at with colors and great penmanship! He made this course actually something I enjoyed to do, and I looked forward to every session with him! Do not hesitate if you are considering working with Niral in any subject!
