Virginia Commonwealth University (Chemistry and Biology)
Hello Everyone! As a recent VCU graduate I am currently studying for the MCAT. While at VCU I worked for the Campus Learning Center tutoring subjects such as general chemistry, organic chemistry, biochemistry, qualitative chemical analysis, general biology, physiology, genetics, cellular bio, microbiology, immunology, and college and university physics. Each week we had training exercises that further developed our tutoring skills. Skills such as recognizing strengths and weaknesses in a student's study habits and learning how to utilize those strengths to the student's advantage while working on exercises to improve the weaknesses.
Excelling in a subject is much more than just memorization, it's understanding. By using real world, tangible examples I can help students grasp complicated ideas. Everyone has the capacity to learn, but everyone learns differently. By catering my tutoring to an individual's needs, I can promise success in the class room. Hello Everyone! Aaron is a very knowledgeable and patient tutor. He always explains things in the simplest terms and he helps you work through equations and problems without doing them for you. My grades have improved considerably after starting tutoring sessions with Aaron, I have an A in chemistry where I had an F when I took it last semester. If you are looking for a great tutor, look no further!
I really enjoyed working with Aaron. He explained things in a way that I understood, all while being very patient when he had to be repetitive. I am an adult student and often felt discouraged when I couldn't figure out a problem. I left our session feeling a little more confident. I was very lucky to find such a caring tutor. I had math anxiety at just the mention of math. Today that all changed. I would recommend Aaron to anyone.
He taught me how to solve a problem by drawing it, and it really made it easy to solve it. He also showed me how to use numbers in some certain questions
Aaron helped me with Algebra II this week. He really helped me grasp the concepts that we are currently working on.
Aaron supported me in my efforts to truly understand organic chemistry. He was very helpful, and I look forward to more sessions with him as new topics are introduced.
Worked with my son to help him pass his Chemistry Final. Seems to have a way with the younger folks.
Aaron reviewed significant figures and dimensional analysis with me in a way that I can understand. He is focused on making sure I understand the material, so that I can complete problems on my own as well.
Aaron is doing a great job helping my daughter with AP Chemistry. He is able to talk through concepts with her, identifying potential areas of confusion for her. He is reliable, professional, and extremely knowledgeable. She feels confident going into her first test after beginning work with him.
Update: we worked with Aaron on a weekly basis for 6 months and are so grateful for his help. My daughter is so much more knowledgeable in Chemistry thanks to Aaron's tutoring. I feel comfortable with her progressing to College Chemistry classes in the future. Aaron never let us down - communication was always excellent and he was endlessly patient in helping her. He provided her with much needed reassurance and confidence. I highly recommend Aaron as a tutor!
My son has been seeing great success with Aaron's help. On top of bettering his grade in the class, my son has also gained confidence in his knowledge of chemistry. Most importantly, Aaron knows ways in which to explain previously misunderstood things to my son, which had already been covered in class, in a way that helps the concepts become committed to memory.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
At VCU I received an A in my genetics course. I also tutored genetics through the Campus Learning Center for many semesters. I had many reoccurring appointments with students who were struggling with the course. Many said I helped them get A's and B's after they were initially struggling.
I absolutely love organic chemistry. It has been my favorite subject in college and I truly enjoy helping others learn organic as well. At the Campus Learning Center at Virginia Commonwealth University I tutored Organic Chemistry I and II. I received A's in Orgo I and II and a B in Advanced Organic Chemistry. I received the American Chemical Society award for undergraduate in organic chemistry.
Study Skills are one of the most crucial skill sets needed to excel in any education environment. While working for the Campus Learning Center at my university, we had weekly training sessions with fellow tutors and educational PhD students. We would learn about different studying techniques, different learning styles, ways to implement certain studying methods for particular learning styles.
My personal method for studying is a little bit at a time. Studying for just 1 hour five days a week is much more beneficial than studying for 5 hours once a week.
Another important factor is the quality of studying. Some people can get away with simply reading through the chapter. Others need to take notes, make highlights, or do practice problems to test the knowledge that you learned. The main thing is to find something that works for you and stick with it.
