I have been teaching and tutoring for over 30 years. I am an RN, with over 12 years of acute care experience. I have taught children and adults in a variety of settings as a tutor, school teacher, and five years as a nursing instructor. I have helped students with academic difficulties to become successful. I especially enjoy transforming difficult concepts into simple to understand language. I utilize clinical scenarios as a teaching tool and use dynamic methods to empower students to become successful. As an academic honor student I share strategies for studying and organization to help students to become more successful. I tutor on a wide variety of topics including public speaking, language arts, cooking, goal-setting, etc. I look forward to helping you to reach your personal, educational and professional goals.

I struggle mostly with confidence and breaking old cycles. She works hard at reaching me and showing me that I can do it very easily. I have a very complex schedule and she works hard to meet me more than half way on every session. I feel every confident that I will have nothing but success with her help.
Studying for the NCLEX felt easier after discussing things with Annette. She gave me very good studying techniques and was always there to help me! I would highly recommend her for a student wanting to pass the NCLEX.
She was prompt and brought a wealth of knowledge. She was able to explain content in a way that is easy to remember. I would recommend her to any nursing student!
I am an expert home cook and baker. I have 3 years experience baking for a restaurant. Cooking and baking are my passions, but I also enjoy teaching people to cook delicious food on a budget.
I am a homeschooling mom. I taught my daughter to read fluently at 2.
I substitute taught for Henrico schools before I had children. In my current roles as an educator, I am skilled at finding innovative teaching methods. I believe lifelong learning is vital. Before I had children of my own I worked at a school for autistic children as an instructional aide and I also taught at a nursery school. As a substitute teacher and a homeschooling mother I have taught math, reading, phonics, spelling, grammar, history, geography, life and Earth sciences. I have also tutored adults in ESL.
NCLEX success for my students at 100 percent in 2016. YOU can be next to pass!
30 + years in healthcare, experienced RN, nurse educator with experience helping people to succeed in nursing and other academic pursuits.
As an RN ( when completing my education) I completed two college level classes which addressed nutrition concerns. One for the healthy population and a second which dealt with malabsorption issues and the various specialized methods (tubes and hyperalimentation) of meeting the specialized needs of people with nutritional challenges. I would feel comfortable tutoring in nutrition.
I have taught pharmacology over the last five years. I currently teach an accredited psychopharmacology course at my work. I have safely administered medications at an acute care setting for 12 years.
I have taught phonics to my own children and also in my professional experiences. I have used text based programs but also adapted the materials so that they work more effectively for the learner by integrating manipulatives as a teaching tool. I teach to learners with varied needs and experiences. My favorite phonics based program is Sing Spell Read and Write but I have used other curricula in the past. I believe in using the child's area.of interest as a focus of learning whenever possible. If they enjoy trains or trucks then words relevant to those topics can be woven into the study unit. Learning needs to be fun in order to be truly successful.
Writing and proofing profession linked curricula & articles.
I have taught, in a variety of capacities to adults and children, as well as speaking at meetings, etc. for offices I have run for and held throughout my adult life. In my current job I teach adult nursing classes, including three four hour classes (which I team teach), of which includes a heavy amount of motivational speaking for four new and current employees. One of my six hour classes is ANCC accredited. Although I teach these four hour classes every month (once each--day evening and night) and employ a Power Point, I am constantly weaving in new stories and experiences from my reading and everyday life to keep the material fresh and interesting. I follow the model of "tell them what you are going to tell them. Then you tell them. Then you tell them what you told them " when writing outlines for speeches. It is classic but works as well now as ever. I would enjoy teaching my craft to others.
I had several years of Latin and I write professionally.
When in nursing school I graduated with a 4.0. I have taught nursing knowledge and other subjects to such varied groups as children, adults, ESL students, people preparing for the citizenship exam, and attorneys handling medical legal cases. I use innovative tips and tricks to improve time management and enhance the quality of studying and learning.
In my accredited pharmacology class I teach a five minute lesson on lithium toxicity including 20 signs and symptoms of lithium toxicity. On retest 10 minutes later learners reach 75 percent or higher recall. The methods which I use to approach studying are very highly effective and produce quick results, regardless of the past difficulties of a learner. I know when to mentor closely vs.when to step back and just encourage. I have specific strategies for test anxiety. My approaches are both unique and effective because they are rooted in the science of positive psychology.
