My educational experience spans 32 years of teaching and mentoring. My career began even before college, as the child of a dedicated teacher, coach, and parent. I was lucky enough to observe and be a part of my father's career as a young teen and was inspired by his dedication and love of learning.
During my college years, I excelled in my field and learned to adapt to many different styles of academic endeavors. Being at a college that inspired and instructed teachers to embrace various learning styles, I became quite skilled in teaching children with disabilities ranging from severe to mild. I also studied and received a degree in Special Education and Early Childhood education. When it came time to choose a master's program, I chose Adult Ed./technology to better serve students that were experiencing difficulty at the Middle and High School level.
I specialize now, and have for the last twenty years, in the field of Elementary Education with dedication to inclusion of students with differentiated learning styles. I also have experience with students who excel in the classroom and are performing above expectations.
I plan to tutor students who have a desire to learn and will work hard to accomplish their goals. With this in mind, I plan to meet initially with students and parents to get in touch with your needs and how I, the tutor, can be most effective. I look forward to establishing a good relationship with each client.
I do require a 24 hour cancellation policy and will meet to discuss fees and time requirements upon request.
I will travel to the home, school, or also if need arises, I can accommodate students in other locations.
In addition to academic counseling, I am trained in organization and curriculum management of school materials as well. I will also incorporate this feature in lessons and academic help to better insure that students will continue their success.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

I have worked over the past eight years with Science SOLs and also worked with hands-on experiments. I have also supervised Science Fairs for my school and used various aspects of our school garden to teach Science. I am skilled and knowledgeable in the field of Science at the Elementary level and have developed my own lesson plans according to SOLs.
Having taught Reading, Spelling, and Writing for many years, I am very experienced in the field of phonics and decoding. I have worked over the years with many reading programs for improving students comprehension and fluency skills. I have used many types of differentiated instruction for improving reading skills over the years.
I have been in the public school sector in a large metropolitan school system for the past eight years. I know SOLs. My expertise in this field is Third Grade. This is a difficult year for some students due to the newness of the test taking environment. I have spent the last eight years working also with beginning teachers and students in navigating test-taking strategies to achieve success.
I have a degree in Special Education from one of the top teaching colleges in the United States. My degree allows me to work with Moderate, Mild, and Severe MR students, grades K-12.
Study Skills/Test-Taking strategies are an integral part of any teacher's expertise. I am a big organizer, and I have always used Study Skill instruction as a way to encourage my students to manage their classroom learning tools. I believe in spending a good bit of time on this important component of instruction. I am skilled in curriculum for elementary grades K-3 and have been instructed in classroom management and study techniques.
