Old Dominion University (History)
University of Phoenix (MEd)
I have spent three previous years as a teacher at All Saints Catholic School and have just recently completed my Master’s Degree in Secondary Education from the University of Phoenix. Over the past three years I have dedicated myself to honing my craft of teaching in an effort to be an even more effective and efficient instructor in the classroom. I look forward to imparting my passion for social studies along to an attentive student body as well as continuing to develop the skills necessary to make an impact in the classroom.
I myself am a product of Henrico county schools; I attended Maude Trevett, Brookland and graduated from Hermitage High in 2000, with a 23 credit degree. In 2000 I went onto attend Old Dominion University where I majored in history and minored in art history. In 2004 I graduated from Old Dominion and went to work in the corporate world. While this was a means to an end I always felt that I was destined for more of challenge. I was lucky enough to be presented with this challenge in 2008 when I accepted a position as social studies teacher at All Saints Catholic School. It was this experience that led me to want to pursue further education and I decided to obtain a Master’s degree in 2011. During this time I took and successfully passed the Praxis II as well as the VCLA assessments. I recently completed a 12 week student teaching practicum where I was fortunate enough to teach 8th grade AP world history. I received my Master’s Degree on June 1st and am currently in the process of applying for certification through the Department of Education. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
