"OH....NOW I GET IT!" is the typical response when children make that connection to their learning. Accountability to the learning is essential for true connections to be made. I am a 4th grade teacher at a private Christian School in Richmond. I completely understand my students when the learning is made meaningful and has purpose. I use a lot of hands on teaching activities and application in my classroom along with music and movement. Learning should be fun and students should walk away from the learning knowing that they've learned something that will last them a lifetime. I've been teaching for 17 years. Allow me to tutor your child..so that you will be apart of the success of hearing them say,"OH....NOW I GET IT!"

She is a wonderful tutor. She is always pleasant and enthusiastic. She makes my student want to read and gives her the moral support and confidence to want to read. I think she is wonderful. And hope to keep her as a tutor. Thank you
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I teach 4th grade Bob Jones Math. It is an accelerated math curriculum that covers a wide range of subjects. I teach my students how to add and subtract small and large numbers. I also teach how to count money ( using the money kit). My students also get an opportunity to review their multiplication facts, division (short and long), geometry, telling time, and place value. I make math as fun as possible. I use M&Ms, cereal, and regular household items to help kids make connections to their learning and to make math real.
There's a lot to be said about learning phonics. I am trained to teach phonics through 8 years of learning the Abeka Curriculum at my school. I understand that each student learns differently but the phonics rules stays the same. Helping my students to be good readers is apart of my job as a teacher that involves, decoding, sounding out, speed, fluency, comprehension, and making the connection that letters that are put together correctly will make words; and that words put together will make sentences and sentences should express a complete thought. Readers are not made, they're grown.I believe it is a process and when done right. I would like to help your child on that journey to being a better reader, writer and speaker!
I taught the Success For All Reading Program for three years in first grade in a Richmond City Public school. The program was a 90 minute reading lesson with hands on activities, songs and different level readers for the children to move from one level to the next. I taught Headstart for 5 years where I introduced letters, letter sounds, and beginning words. I am currently teaching 4th grade in a Private Christian school where the Abeka Curriculum is taught. My 4th reading class involves previewing the story, building on prior knowledge, reading the story, discussing the events that occurred in the story, writing activities, character sketches, book reports, reading orally, reading for speed, reading for purpose and main ideas, finding details, comprehension and evaluating each reader using the the 9 points of interest sheet. I hope that you can see that I am the right tutor for your child. Reading is a life-long skill that with the right foundations and tools make happy, effective, strong readers that will read for enjoyment and to complete assignments and projects .We are raising up READERS today.... who will make a difference in our world Tomorrow!
Having good study habits is necessary to being a well organized student. How to study is just as important as when to study and what to study for. I have have had over 15 years of experience in helping my students and my own children to study for tests and quizzes. Some of the key points that I use are study guides, games (using the content covered), a "to do" list, organization of the book bag as well as the students desk are all key to helping students to get ready. We all have had opportunities in life to take our tests and quizzes. Allow me to help your student become well organized and take on some good study habits so that he/she can be the shining star that he/she is!
