Prospective Students and Parents,
I have a Master of Science in Education from Virginia State University and graduated with a 3.89 G.P.A. Subsequently, I attended another program and obtained an ESL license. Thus, I am certified to teach English as a Second Language. I am willing to teach any elementary-school-aged or middle school students in any subject. I am also willing to teach English, level one Spanish, biology, earth science, and social studies to high school students. Finally, I have tutored adults and would be willing to do so again.
I have worked for tutoring agencies and independently for the past seven years. While working for Club Z, I assisted students with homework and helped them improve their reading comprehension levels. While working independently, I also assisted with homework, helped improve reading comprehension skills, reading fluency, basic math skills, and taught math strategies. My biggest accomplishment was helping a student raise his reading level from 1.8, (first grade, eighth month) to 3.9, (third grade, ninth month in one school year).
Currently, I am teaching test-taking and reading comprehension strategies to fourth-grade students.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

With my assistance they greatly improved their vocabularies, reading fluency levels, reading comprehension levels, and writing abilities. I am certain that I could do the same for you or your child.
I've completed 2 grad level courses in phonics, one at Mary Baldwin and the other at Virginia State University. I am familiar with phonics and whole language. Phonics is the sounding out of words. It includes phonemes and phonemic awareness as well as digraphs, consonant blends and r controlled vowels. Most students learn to read via phonics today.
