Hi, my name is Kelly Greene. I am not just a color. Yes, I have been a respected tutor and certified Educational Therapist in Richmond, VA for over twenty years. I began my education at the College of William and Mary with a B.S. in Psychology. After interning at Eastern State Mental Hospital in the children’s ward, I went on to receive my Master’s degree in Special Education with endorsements in emotional disturbance and learning disabilities. Beginning my career as a Mental Health Technician at Cumberland Hospital and then working as an Activities Therapist and Special Education teacher, I received a variety of experiences and training opportunities. In 1988, I landed a job in Chesterfield County as an elementary school resource teacher with learning disabled students. The next year I taught a self-contained learning disabled class at Hopkins Elementary. There I received training in the Herman Method for Reversing Reading Failure and the Boys Town Behavioral Model. Deciding to stay home with my children, I started my own tutoring and testing business. I took outside courses in reading and writing (Writing Road to Reading and the Institute for Excellence in Writing). During that journey, I also taught at a private school and home educated several students besides my own. I was asked to teach home school classes at several private academies and in people’s homes. In 2000, I began the first level of training with the National Institute of Learning Development (NILD). In subsequent years, I took Level I and Basic Training in Feuerstein Instrumental Enrichment. After two more levels of NILD training, I became a certified Educational Therapist. I was then asked by NILD to complete the Rx for Discovery Reading Program. I have had numerous educational therapy students both privately and at a Christian school. At Heritage Christian Academy, I taught English, Latin I and Educational Therapy/Study Skills. In October 2007, I accepted a full time teaching position with Hallmark Youthcare, a residential treatment facility for at-risk youth. I went part-time in 2008 as the reading specialist. I now work on a per need basis as the educational diagnostician at Hallmark. Currently I have numerous tutoring students as well as Educational Therapy students. I have also home educated several students and also work as a trainer with Learning Rx. I believe every child can learn. With cognitive training and intervention through intense, mediated instruction, a student’s patterns of learning and educational weaknesses can be remediated.
Kelly has been a huge asset to my (10th grade) daughter's study and homework habits. She has taken the time to work closely with my daughter to better understand her needs and work with her to build better working habits. She helped my daughter deal with short term deadlines in order to improve her grades. Kelly has a very positive and friendly personality and could identify with my daughter's needs. She is a pleasure to work with, and we hope to continue working with her on a weekly basis in the coming school years.Laura, 27 lessons with Kelly
Very patient and very creative tutor
Kelly has taught me very helpful test taking skills and very good ways to reduce test anxiety. I think a lot of Kelly’s lessons that she’s taught me will help me in future tests and future difficult situations to come.Andrew, 3 lessons with Kelly
Knowledgable, effective, and patient
My son has ADHD and a learning disability which adversely affects his ability to read and comprehend. Since working with Kelly, he has made tremendous progress and brought his failing grade in Reading up to a C this quarter. Kelly also does a great job of motivating him to stay on task and putting forth his best effort. She's also just a generally nice person to work with--my son always looks forward to seeing "Ms. Kelly"!Jontille, 81 lessons with Kelly
It has been so easy to schedule sessions with Kelly. Even with both of our busy schedules, we can find a time and place that will work.Deb, 35 lessons with Kelly
Very Encouraging Beginning
Kelly assessed Joseph to identify his weaknesses in reading, writing, and mathematics. I think that Kelly zeroed in on what Joseph needs to work on. I feel very encouraged that this will aid in Joseph's academic success.Karen , 3 lessons with Kelly

Awesome tutor, very patient
Kelly is helping me to prepare for the praxis I. She is helping me to learn all of the things I struggled with while in school. I know I'll pass the praxis, but I'm even more grateful to have someone capable of teaching me in a way that I understand.MyLa, 4 lessons with Kelly

My son has high functioning Aspergers, Dyslexia and ADHD. He really struggled with reading. Kelly is able to work with him in a fun and engaging manner so that he actually looks forward to seeing her. She is very patient with his silliness and constant wiggles. We have been using her weekly for several months and his spelling and reading level have improved. We will continue using her as long as needed.Kristi, 10 lessons with Kelly
