I have been tutoring almost all of my life, beginning in 5th grade when I tutored a special needs student in spelling. In junior high school, I began regularly tutoring mathematics to other students and have continued doing so to this day. While in college, I was employed as a tutor for my college as well as several community high schools. As a tutor in college, I worked with a student who was blind and 95% deaf to teach her algebra 1 and 2. She successfully completed both subjects with an A! Upon graduation, I have worked as an independent contractor for 12 years tutoring all levels of math to students in the Richmond, VA community. After working with students, their grades have improved dramatically. I have found that some students just need the information relayed to them in a different way than the teacher taught and need the one-on-one attention to improve confidence.

Our first experience with a tutor was great! My daughter’s time with Kathryn made her feel more relaxed, confident, and ready to tackle the her final exam! My daughter used the techniques that Kathryn taught and passed her final exam! Although my daughter is in Honor's classes, she still requires instruction. Once she is taught how to do anything, she becomes very proficient at it. We were able to meet a new lifelong friend (Kathryn) because of the circumstances. I sincerely appreciate your patience, kindness, and the quality time spent with my daughter to make sure she understood Trigonometry. Thank you, thank you, and thank you!!!! You have a wonderful gift!
She worked on Algebra problems that were troubling my daughter, who will be going into high school this year. They covered a lot of ground in a short amount of time.
This was our first experience with a tutor and I have nothing but excellent things to say about Kathryn. She is very professional and responded very quickly to our request, which was important as it is nearing the end of the school year. She was easy to reach and responded back quickly by email and phone. She arrived a few minutes early and immediately put my 12 year old son at ease. He was initially nervous but she connected with him and he responded very well. Kathryn was able to get him organized and focused on the work at hand. We plan to continue working with Kathryn and recommend her to others.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
