About Ryan

I hold a lifetime teaching certificate in Missouri in the subject areas of Social Studies and English. I have taught high school students for five years and tutored adults for over four years, including the GRE and LSAT for one of the big test preparation companies. I enjoy helping people achieve their goals and I have a proven record of improving scores on standardized test.

I believe in working with the student to identify weaknesses, plan a strategy to attack each test, and then perfect that strategy through practicing questions under timed conditions.

On verbal reasoning sections I focus on strategies to increase reading efficiency while also improving accuracy. For the GRE I focus on developing the necessary vocabulary for the test. I use previous tests released by the testing organization whenever possible to make the practice as much like test day as possible.

For math sections of the ACT, SAT, and GRE I focus on learning the basic math rules necessary for each test. I then focus on strategies to maximize scores by completing the easiest questions first. I also teach alternative ways for solving math problems such as number picking and backwards solving.

For writing sections I can teach simple outlines to get high scores on all parts of the test. I can grade practice essays and then develop work with each student to develop strategies to improve scores.

My specialty is the LSAT. On this test I have developed a simple five-step method for logic games that enables many students to obtain a near perfect score on this section with practice. On logical reasoning I focus on a four-step method and also teach special nuances for each of the question types.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ACT English

I have taught at the high school level for over five years and tutored privately for nearly ten years. I hold a lifetime teaching certificate from the state of Missouri in English and studies. Great teacher, very knowledgeable — I reached out to Ryan for help around the logic games section of the LSAT. I went in completely lost and Ryan was a huge help in taking me step by step into tackling each type of question. He does a great job of explaining the basics and also gives insight into some of the trickier areas. He is clearly very well versed in this space. I was happy with how quickly he moved through the content, he wi ...
