Cynthia helped my son with Algebra 2, working through confusing or difficult equations and making them much easier to understand. Often he wasn't sure how to start a problem, but she gave him good strategies. Thank you, Cynthia!
Cynthia was very helpful in helping my daughter simplify some of the algebra 2 formulas and equations. Would definitely recommend her to others. Thanks for the great job!
Cynthia taught me multiple steps to approaching the GRE. I found our first lesson to be very informative. She was very knowledgeable and helped point out ways to approach the math section as well as the verbal. She was very kind and a pleasure to be around.
My daughter is learning Quadratics among other things in Algebra 2. For her first lesson with Cynthia, she found that she was excellent in explaining formulas in a way she could understand. Very patient, funny and intelligent, we had a great tutoring session. Thank you.
Cynthia has tutored both out college graduate daughter in GRE and is continuing to tutor our high school senior on AP Bio and AP Stat. She also tutored him on the new SAT. Our daughter did incredibly well as a result of Cynthia's clear, individualized instruction that addressed our daughter's specific strengths and weaknesses. Not all smart people are great teachers. Cynthia is an amazing teacher who is firm, encouraging, observant, and dedicated to each student. For our son, she continues to be critical in his progress at school. He says he wishes she was his teacher at school. We are so pleased with Cynthia and highly recommend her to anyone...of all age and skill levels.
She is a patient and enthusiastic teacher who makes the subject matter interesting and enjoyable to learn. She not only understands Chemistry but also how students learn so she is very effective and efficient.
Patient, friendly, flexible. Both kids enjoyed working with her. We look forward to having her come back on a regular basis.
Our daughter is getting prepared to take the SAT on 10/1. Cynthia is doing a great job in helping her study material and do the best she can.
My daughter just loved her, very understanding and helpful. She can help my daughter on any subject.
At last, we found the tutor we were looking for.
Cynthia made it easy to re-learn the math needed for the GRE. She was patient, knowledgeable and gave me tips that will help me do my best. I would highly recommend her!
Cynthia has worked with my son in biology, chemistry and English. She tutored him for the Reading and Writing sections of the SAT as well as for the SAT Chemistry Subject test. She is an outstanding tutor and focuses on areas that are of interest to the student. Her approach helped my son understand the topics better. She is very flexible with scheduling and has helped out even at very short notice. I am really glad I found her and would highly recommend her as a tutor.
Cynthia was kind, patient and understanding of what we were needing for our daughter. Already scheduled the next two sessions!
Cynthia was very enthusiastic and helpful. She was patient and very encouraging. She can help in so many subjects, and we plan on using her as much as possible.
Our first session included a thoughtful dialogue. I appreciated that she listened to my experiences as a parent and offered her observations.
Cynthia was tutoring my daughter to prepare for ACT. She is a great teacher, punctual, organized, flexible, knowledgeable and reliable. She took the charge and came up with the plan for my daughter's prep. This was my daughter's first time taking ACT. With Cynthia's guidance, she got decent score. My daughter is planning to take ACT second time to improve her score as she will have more time to practice in summer and we plan to get Cynthia back to guide her.
My daughters really liked working with Cynthia to prep for the SAT. She was knowledgeable about how to approach the test in all areas, but also could focus on math. She is friendly, flexible, and patient. We'll definitely call her again if needed for the ACT or AP classes, or to help with college app essays.
Cynthia has started tutoring my daughter Molly in math. Molly has a unique learning style and has difficulty understanding math. Cynthia recognized how Molly learns right away, and after just one lesson, Molly is already feeling more confident. Can't say enough good things ....look forward to seeing ongoing progress and rising grades !
Cynthia was fabulous. Our daughter's SAT scores went up 180 points after spending 2+ months with her. We are extremely pleased!
Cynthia is a wonderful tutor. My daughter really likes her and she has helped with both Chemistry and Precalculus. I know that Cynthia will be a big help in my daughter's understanding on both of these subjects.
Cynthia was helping me prepare for the math portion of the GRE. She was very patient, and explained each problem in detail. She gave me many useful tips when taking the test that I wouldn't have otherwise known. She was brilliant!!
Cynthia taught effective test-taking techniques that helped my daughter do much better on the SAT II Math I Test. She clearly cares about her students and relates with them well!
Cynthia makes you feel at ease and knows her stuff. She provides many good strategies for the GRE. Great tutor.
Cynthia is wonderful and dependable! She arrives on time and my 17 year old feels he is much more prepared for his SAT test! We are so happy we went this route over the large SAT prep classes held at school!
Cynthia is always on time, patient and very knowledgeable while tutoring my 17 year old for her upcoming ACT test. I have been very pleased and would highly recommend her.
Cynthia developed a good rapport with our son. She was very focused on the areas that needed development and the sessions were productive. Cynthia was efficient, pleasant and very accommodating of our son’s schedule. We would use her again.
Cynthia is an outstanding tutor. She is tutoring my son for the SAT and SAT subject tests. Cynthia has an easy way of teaching. She knows the material and makes it easy to grasp. We appreciate her patience and positive manner. She takes the anxiety out of these exams and provides confidence instead.
My son worked with Cynthia for several one hour sessions and she was able to identify his weakness and provide immediate strategies for improving his ACT score. She reinforced those strategies with meaningful examples and also followed up by giving my son an assignment for the following week. She was thoughtful and knew how to motivate and connect with my child. Cynthia was prompt in her arrival to my home and stayed beyond the allotted time. I'm happy I had chosen Cynthia to work with my child to prepare for the ACT.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have worked in the admissions office of Furman University and closely with the admissions program at Clemson University. I also have worked with HS students applying to college for over 5 years now, allowing me insight into both sides of the admissions process. I consider myself well versed in both the application process and the application review process.
While I am numerically dyslexic, my husband is truly dyslexic. Both of us have successfully overcome this disability to be extremely successful in our fields. I have worked with many dyslexic students, specifically on test prep for SAT and ACT and met with great success.
Not only have I taken the GRE with excellent results (I recently took the new GRE and scored a 170 in verbal and a 166 in Math), but I have also tutored students for the test for over 5 years now. I enjoy working with students to teach them how to take the test. I am knowledgeable about the subjects on the test, as well as the strategies needed to excel.
Being a child who constantly got in trouble for talking, public speaking seemed a natural for me. However, I still had to overcome my own brand of stage nervousness. Therefore, I feel uniquely qualified to look at both the speaking and the nervousness associated with it to be the best tutor for an anxious student.
I have been tutoring the SAT for over 7 years now. I was trained to teach the test by a test prep company, and since then, I have evolved my own strategies based on the success of my students. I always endeavor to take into consideration the learning styles and strengths of my students when tutoring, so each tutorial is different, based on the needs of the student.
